ROLE OBJECTIVE:




We are seeking a Senior User Researcher within the User Centred Design Practice at Goaco. The senior user researcher will be an experienced practitioner who is able to plan and lead user research activities in larger teams and on more complex services. They build user-centred practices in new teams and align user research activities with wider plans to inform service design and proposition.

RESPONSIBILITIES:



Identify user needs and ensure these are at the forefront of delivery. Planning and leading user research activities to ethical standards to understand user needs and behaviours and align with project goals. Provide specialist guidance on the appropriate research and analysis methodologies to use at the different stages of delivery: discovery, alpha, beta and live. Sorting, categorizing, and transforming raw research data into valuable information for complex projects. Effectively communicating user research findings to your team and the wider organisation to influence decision-making. Supporting the development of accessible services by ensuring that participants with access needs are included in all research. Work across complex programmes or services to ensure that user research is embedded into the service design and project delivery. Engage with stakeholders, at all levels, to understand research requirements and feedback research findings and recommendations. Work to government digital service standards and assure user research quality on projects, through digital service assessments, both as an assessor and on projects being assessed. Collaborate with colleagues in the cross-government user research communities and contribute to the development of best practice and cross-government guidance. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including delivery, product management, business analysis, software development to share research insights.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:



Understanding and applying a range of user research methods correctly for different life cycle phases and advising others on these methods at a senior level. Communicating insights from research in a clear and impactful way that drives change in the design of services and informs policy and proposition. Researching diverse audiences to help teams deliver accessible and inclusive digital services. You have a strong understanding of design thinking. You can apply frameworks and approaches as appropriate to the circumstances of a project. You take an evidence-based approach to design. You seek to test your assumptions to ensure that your designs are the simplest feasible approach to solving problems for users. Understanding of user-centred design practices and know how to align your work to agile workflows across all stages of the development lifecycle. Working in an open, iterative and collaborative way in a multidisciplinary team. Experience working with Government Digital Service (GDS) service standards, using GDS design principles. Convincing senior stakeholders about the benefits of adopting a user-centred approach, based on evidence. You can appropriately manage the stakeholders you encounter within your work and know how to escalate issues and when to seek support in unblocking design work.
