Senior Wordpress Developer

Remote, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

About Us:

Atomic Digital Marketing (atomicdigitalmarketing.co.uk) is a fast-growing, UK-based digital marketing agency specialising in innovative website design and development, as well as performance-driven digital strategies. We work with a wide range of clients across industries, delivering websites that don't just look great but perform exceptionally too.

We're now looking for a Senior WordPress Developer to join our remote team and help us craft high-quality, fast, and scalable WordPress websites that align with our creative vision and clients' business goals.

Role Overview:

We're seeking an experienced and technically strong WordPress Developer who can take ownership of end-to-end website builds -- from theme development and custom plugin work to optimising site performance and collaborating with our designers and marketers. You'll play a key role in delivering beautifully built, clean, and SEO-friendly WordPress websites for a diverse range of clients.

Responsibilities:

- Develop custom WordPress themes and plugins tailored to client needs.
- Convert Figma/Sketch/Adobe XD designs into pixel-perfect, responsive WordPress websites.
- Implement advanced functionality using ACF (Advanced Custom Fields), custom post types, Gutenberg blocks, etc.
- Optimise websites for speed, performance, SEO, and mobile responsiveness.
- Troubleshoot bugs, resolve compatibility issues, and maintain high code quality.
- Integrate third-party tools and APIs, including CRM systems, email marketing platforms, and analytics tools.
- Maintain and update existing WordPress sites, ensuring stability, security, and up-to-date best practices.
- Collaborate closely with designers, project managers, and marketers to meet timelines and deliver exceptional work.

Requirements:

- 4+ years of experience as a WordPress Developer, preferably in an agency or freelance setting.
- Deep understanding of the WordPress ecosystem -- including theme and plugin development from scratch.
- Strong skills in PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript (incl. jQuery), and MySQL.
- Proficiency with page builders (e.g., Elementor, WPBakery) and strong opinions on when/why to use them.
- Experience with ACF, CPTs, WooCommerce, and multilingual setups (e.g., WPML).
- Solid grasp of technical SEO, site architecture, and on-page optimisation techniques.
- Familiarity with Git and version control workflows.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Comfortable managing multiple projects and working independently in a remote environment.

Bonus Skills:

- Experience with performance optimisation tools (e.g., WP Rocket, Cloudflare, LiteSpeed Cache).
- Working knowledge of GA4, Google Tag Manager, and conversion tracking setups.
- Familiarity with Figma, Adobe XD, or other design tools.
- Knowledge of headless WordPress or JAMstack setups (e.g., WordPress + Next.js).

What We Offer:

- Fully remote role with flexible working hours.
- A variety of projects across different industries and tech stacks.
- A fast-paced, collaborative, and supportive team environment.
- Competitive hourly or project-based rates depending on experience.
- Long-term freelance opportunities with potential for regular, ongoing work.
