Senior / Lead Youth Worker25 hours per week | Core hours: 4pm-8pm
Young People Count is a youth space at the heart of the community -- energetic, warm, real, and shaped by what young people actually respond to. It's a place where teenagers come to breathe, create, talk, laugh, and just be.
We're now recruiting a
Senior / Lead Youth Worker
to help steer the day-to-day running of the space and keep things feeling safe, lively, and youth led.
This isn't a clipboard-and-quiet-corner job. It's relational, hands-on, and rooted in giving young people the space and respect they need. You'll be part of a small, supportive team, an adult who listens, who joins in, and who helps hold the room when things get busy.
What you'll be doing
? Leading the day-to-day running of YPC's youth sessions -- evenings, activities, drop-ins, and the joyful unpredictability that comes with them.
? Sharing responsibility for safeguarding, DBS processes, health & safety, and keeping the space safe and welcoming.
? Creating content, events and updating our website and social media platforms that maintain engagement.
? Completing general admin tasks, risk assessments, and keeping records up to date and in line with GDPR.
? Supporting staff and volunteers so everyone feels confident and able to play their part.
? Building warm, non-judgemental relationships with young people aged 11-18, including those who don't always click with other services.
? Creating and delivering sessions that genuinely connect -- crafts, music, wellbeing, games, group chats, creative projects.
? Being proactive and practical: helping shape the programme, spotting opportunities, and keeping things flowing.
? Representing YPC at occasional meetings and maintaining positive links with schools, families, and local partners.
What we're looking for
? Someone with experience working directly with young people, strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding.
? An excellent communicator who is youth-positive, respectful, and ready to listen.
? Someone who understands why youth spaces matter and wants to help make ours the best it can be.
? A steady, reliable presence who can bring good energy and stay grounded.
? Someone organised, practical, and comfortable taking initiative -- but also happy being part of a team and asking for support when needed.
? Creative, open, and genuinely passionate about youth work, who can confidently cultivate relationships with our community.
