Newmedica are one of the leading providers of NHS ophthalmology services in England, providing outpatients appointments, diagnostic testing and eye surgery. We aim to change lives through better sight and eye health.
We care for thousands of NHS and private patients a year in our specialist eye clinics across the country. We have significant growth plans over the next few years as we look to establish a national footprint and open many new sites across the UK.
We are thrilled to say that following an independently conducted survey of Newmedica colleagues to tell us what it's like to work here, we have been certified as a Great Place to Work(TM) for the second year running. The feedback has directly contributed to Newmedica being listed among the UK's top 50 Best Workplaces(TM) for 2025.
Overview of the role
We are looking for a new Service Engagement Manager role to join the team and help us continue to deliver outstanding clinical care for our patients.
The Service Engagement Manager is responsible for supporting the development and growth of patient referrals into Newmedica services.
This role will support 3 of our clinical services in Nottingham, Northampton and Oxford and the role holder would ideally be based in Nottingham. This is a full-time, remote role but you will be expected to travel three days per week. Occasional evenings and weekends will be required.
So what will I be doing?
Working across your designated geographical area you'll deliver the required referral numbers to your Ophthalmology Joint Ventures (OJVs) to achieve business targets such as sales and profits plans. You'll promote Newmedica services and patient choice to deliver referral volumes.
You will be highly visible within the community surrounding each of the OJV locations and your practical understanding of the local referral community will help Partners to develop referrer engagement plans and build local relationships with referrers such as Opticians, GPs, Referral Management Centres, LOCs.
You'll be the main conduit for our Joint Venture Partners and the Newmedica marketing team regarding referrals. You'll be the eyes and ears on the ground and will have a thorough understanding of competitor activity. You'll support brand new OJVs in the lead up to and immediately after opening to ensure traction and awareness in their referral communities. You'll also play a key role in the planning and organising of events such as CPD sessions at the OJVs as well as optical fairs and national seminars.
What skills and experience do I need for the role?
You'll have experience within a referrals or sales generation environment. Ideally you will have knowledge of the NHS policy landscape relating to patient referrals, particularly in the ophthalmology sector.
You'll be a resistant self-starter - a strong communicator who is able to overcome challenges and influence people to your point of view.
Your friendly and engaging personality will mean that you are adept at establishing effective working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders. You'll be used to building long term relationships and will understand how to maintain these contacts in a way that will encourage on-going patient referrals.
You'll have experience of organising and managing promotional events and your excellent organisational skills will ensure these are always a success.
You'll be comfortable working in a home-based role with a high degree of travel around the OJVs that you support. Whilst the core working time is typical office hours, flexibility will be required regarding travel and after-hours events.
This role will suit a friendly, engaging and confident person who thrives in a fast-paced, target driven environment. Someone who loves being out and about meeting new people and cultivating business relationships.
