Management and leadership - Lead and manage St Albans Mencap, be responsible for all activities and staff of St Albans Mencap and lead on our CQC & Ofsted Registrations.
Ensure the smooth delivery of the services that we provide and that they are fully compliant with St Albans Mencaps's health and safety and statutory duties.
Work with the Trustee Board to develop both the business plan and the services that St Albans Mencap provides or intends to provide.
Liaise with stakeholders and the families of the people we support in expanding, developing and refining our services and activities in a manner that supports the needs of our service users and their parent/carers.
Key responsibilities
Service delivery - manage our Adult services and CQC registered children's services.
Service oversight - oversee the SNAP school holiday play schemes and Saturday clubs and at home provision.
Service development - liaise with clients, carers, the community, staff and trustees to review and deliver the business plan.
Communication - create appropriate communications and publicity for St Albans Mencap.
Representation - represent St Albans Mencap both within the community and regionally.
Personnel - with Trustee Board support take the lead in recruitment, management, support and training and development of staff. Ensure an effective HR function is in place. Use staff resources effectively and efficiently.
Information management - establish and achieve performance management objectives and collate relevant statistics to review and improve delivery of services.
Financial - with Trustee Board manage the annual budget. Assist Treasurer with finance records and reporting to trustees.
Statutory - in conjunction with Trustee Board maintain responsibility for all relevant legislation and contractual obligations and ensure best practice is adhered to.
Person specifications
Diplomatic and tactful with excellent interpersonal skills
Good written and verbal communications skills including confidence in public speaking and report writing.
Competency in using IT equipment and basic software packages.
Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
Methodical and organised with ability to prioritise and delegate.
Commitment to the overall aims and objectives of St Albans Mencap and its development
Self-motivation, Flexibility and Enthusiasm to work in a small charitable organisation.
Full training will be provided at St Albans Mencap's expense for any required qualifications to fulfil the role.
Key experience
Demonstrable ability to work with learning disabled of all ages and to be able to liaise with the families and other stakeholders of the people we support.
Ability to manage people, grow a team and motivate individuals.
Capability to establish new projects and/or provide leadership to a small organisation.
Understanding of health and safety and compliance with statutory duties in delivering services.
Desirable experience
Knowledge and understanding of working with a local charity delivering services locally.
Working at a responsible level in the charity sector
Knowledge and experience of fund raising or promoting charitable aims.

Some out of hours work may be required.
Driving licence and access to transport a prerequisite.
Some home working and flexible working around core hours may be possible.
