Job Description

Are you a skilled and passionate sewing tutor or garment maker who enjoys teaching and loves working with young people and even adults?

We are seeking a dedicated Sewing & Garment Construction Tutor to join our Creative Summer Club team this August -- with the exciting possibility of continuing beyond the summer into a long-term role.

This position begins as a 4-week trial during our Creative summer programme, and after review, the role may become a permanent part-time position from September 2025, supporting our wider year-round creative learning programme.

You would teach learners, children aged 6-16, and support adult learners basic sewing skills, fabric work, and entry-level garment construction in a safe, fun, and inclusive environment. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of a growing creative education project.

Key Responsibilities



- Plan and lead weekly sewing sessions (approx. 10-20 hours/week during August)

- Introduce children and adult learners to sewing machines, fabric handling, cutting, pinning, and pattern basics

- Support individual and group fashion/garment-making projects

- Promote safety, confidence and creativity in a supportive learning space

- Supervise use of tools and ensure all health and safety measures are met

- Collaborate with the wider summer team and help evaluate session outcomes

- If extended, contribute to the development of longer-term sewing/fashion programmes for young people

- Set up and pack down equipment, with care and supervision

Requirements



- Proven experience in sewing, tailoring, dressmaking, or fashion design

- Confident with machine and hand sewing techniques, patterns, and construction

- Must be available 2 days in a week, throughout August

- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one before start date) - - Safeguarding awareness and commitment to child safety

Desirable (but not essential)



- Portfolio of previous personal or student sewing projects
- Knowledge of sustainable fashion or upcycling practices

- Experience working with children or young people in educational or community settings

Project Dates



- August 2025, with an opportunity for a retainerfrom September 2025.

- Sessions will take place between 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

- Approx. 10- 20 hours of delivery per week, plus brief prep and setup time

Job Types: Part-time, Temp to perm, Zero hours contract
Contract length: 1 month

Pay: 13.00 per hour
