Job Overview


We are seeking a highly skilled SharePoint Consultant to oversee the management, development, and governance of our Microsoft 365 SharePoint environment, which serves as our company intranet and document management platform. The successful candidate will ensure that SharePoint supports collaboration, security, and compliance with ISO 27001, while driving improvements in structure, usability, and information governance.

Key Responsibilities



Governance & Administration



Manage the overall configuration, administration, and lifecycle of the company's SharePoint Online environment. Develop and maintain SharePoint governance policies aligned with ISO 27001 controls, ensuring compliance with internal and external standards. Implement and oversee robust retention policies for documents and records. Maintain comprehensive documentation for configurations, procedures, and policies.

Information Architecture & Search



Design and optimise SharePoint information architecture, including site structure, metadata, taxonomy, and folksonomy. Improve search functionality through metadata-driven content tagging, managed properties, and search schema configuration. Ensure consistent use of content types, templates, and metadata to enhance findability and lifecycle management.

Security & Access Management



Implement and manage role-based access using Microsoft 365 Security Groups and SharePoint permissions. Establish and maintain sensitivity labels and data classification in line with information security and ISO 27001 requirements. Regularly review permissions, ensuring least-privilege access and secure external sharing configurations. Collaborate with IT Security and Compliance teams to ensure that SharePoint's technical controls support the organisation's information security framework.

Development & Automation



Lead the enhancement of SharePoint functionality, including automation and workflow solutions using Power Automate and Power Apps. Support teams in developing SharePoint sites, document libraries, and intranet pages to improve collaboration and communication. Evaluate and deploy new features, integrations, and user experience improvements within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.

Support & Training



Provide guidance, training, and support to users and site owners. Promote best practice in document management, collaboration, and security awareness. Act as the subject matter expert for SharePoint Online across the organisation.

Essential Skills & Experience



Proven experience administering and developing

SharePoint Online

environments. Strong understanding of

Microsoft 365

ecosystem (Teams, Power Automate, Power Apps, OneDrive, Purview). Experience with

taxonomy, metadata, and information architecture design

. Hands-on experience managing

permissions via Microsoft 365 security groups

and

sensitivity labels

. Familiarity with

retention policies, data loss prevention (DLP)

, and

compliance centre

features. Demonstrated understanding of

ISO 27001

or similar information security frameworks. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.

Desirable Skills



Microsoft certifications (e.g. MS-700, MS-203, or SharePoint Administrator Associate). Experience with PowerShell scripting for SharePoint and 365 management. Experience supporting intranet content design and user adoption initiatives. Understanding of GDPR and data protection best practices.

The successful candidate will be detail-oriented with a structured approach to governance and compliance. They will have strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical users. They will be a self-starter: proactive, collaborative, and able to balance innovation with security and control.
