Job description
SHEQ Advisor (Power)
Our client, a leading organisation within the utilities and telecommunications sector, is seeking a dedicated SHEQ Advisor to join their growing power division. This permanent role focuses on ensuring compliance, driving best practices, and fostering a strong SHEQ culture across operational sites within the South West of England.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Advising on SHEQ planning and promotion, contributing to safe and compliant working environments.
  • Monitoring SHEQ performance on power contracts, supporting improvements in safety and environmental standards.
  • Assisting with SHEQ documentation, including CPPs, QMPs, Risk Registers, RAMS, and Emergency Plans.
  • Uploading and maintaining project data on JSM's SHEQ management system (AppCan).
  • Supporting the completion of PQQs and tender documentation from a SHEQ perspective.
  • Ensuring team compliance with SHEQ policies, procedures and training requirements.
  • Identifying SHEQ training gaps and supporting the development of staff awareness and competence.
  • Investigating and reporting on incidents, near misses, and dangerous occurrences (RIDDOR compliance).
  • Monitoring contractor SHEQ performance, ensuring alignment with JSM and client expectations.
  • Ensuring compliance with NERS accreditation standards across all Power Division activities.
  • Participating in site audits, inspections and toolbox talks, driving a positive safety culture.
  • Engaging with operational teams in live substation environments to ensure safe working practices.
Job Requirements:
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum)
  • Experience in Power infrastructure from 11kv to 132kv (substation projects)
  • EUSR or CSCS card (relevant to role)
  • NRSWA (SWQR) and Working knowledge of HSG47
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Competent in incident investigation, reporting, and data analysis
  • 3-4 years' experience in a SHEQ role within utilities, civils, or construction (power sector preferred)
