The Role




We're looking for a Shift Team Leader to join our growing team! This is a leadership role responsible for supervising our Shift Team (in which you will work to a rostered day and night shift pattern) and ensure safe and efficient operations of Coryton Power Station. Your role will be essential in helping us ensure that the plant is reliable, and availability is always maximised.

Role Summary



Operations & Performance



Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of power generation systems, including control room supervision, plant performance optimisation, HV switching, emergency response, and compliance with operational, safety, and regulatory standards. Provides leadership in shift operations, supports maintenance activities, and contributes to continuous improvement across performance, training, and engineering functions.

HSSE



Accountable for ensuring day-to-day safety and environmental compliance on site, including implementation of HSSE policies, coordination of safe systems of work, dynamic risk assessments, active participation in safety forums and continuous improvement initiatives.



Scheduling & Reporting



Supports operational planning and reporting through coordination with National Grid and internal stakeholders, accurate shift logging, incident reporting, and use of plant monitoring systems. Assist with outage scheduling, safety documentation, and continuous improvement of operational procedures.

Improvements & Projects



Contribute to plant efficiency and reliability through project work, engineering improvements, and active participation in the Plant Leadership Team, while supporting wider business initiatives as needed.

People Management



Build and maintain a culture of teamwork where team members can and want to contribute to their full potential. Participate in employee recruitment, setting goals, yearly reviews and team performance. Ensure that adequate shift cover to meet operational demands.

Why you?



As our next Shift Team Leader, you will have a minimum of 5 years' practical experience in heavy industrial power generation plant equipment, such as gas and steam turbines and high-pressure boilers. You will be a proactive individual who has previous experience in a supervisory role and knowledge of industrial plant systems and processes. You will be a great communicator, be comfortable working in a lean structure and passionate about driving high standards. This role would suit someone who has experience in an Operational/Production role and a knowledge of operating from a Control Room.

Education/Experience



Minimum of HND in an Operational/Engineering discipline (qualifications below this may be acceptable if evidenced by suitable experience)*
Knowledge and experience of power generation processes, Safety from the System and Safety Rules, HV switchgear and switching, water / steam cycle and cooling water system chemistry, performance monitoring, reading of technical drawings, use of computers and PC-based applications
