Job Description

The opportunity has arisen at Dalton Metal Recycling for a Shredder Operator to join our well established team from Broxburn depot.

Reports to the Shredder Supervisor.

The Shredder Operator is responsible for the efficient operation of the shredder at optimal productions rates with minimal downtime. Communicates upward with the Shredder Supervisor regarding all repair and maintenance issues while ensuring that all of his/her efforts are compliant with the company Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

The Shredder Operator should possess prior knowledge and experience of working within heavy industrial environment, involved and carried out repairs and maintenance on heavy processing equipment and plant, confidently working with variety of hand tools.

Essential Functions

This position operates from within the operation room equipped with CCTV cameras and manually operated shredder plant controls. Ensure the shredder runs efficiently, at optimal productions rates with minimal downtime.

Take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, while ensuring material is suitable for shredding and falls within size requirements. Maintain routine and consistent housekeeping in shredding area to ensure the safe operation of the equipment and affected employees. Perform daily routine mechanical maintenance functions as necessary.

Job Conditions

This position is regularly exposed to all weather conditions. Physical hazards such as noise, fumes, and dirt are present due to the equipment, machinery, and scrap as would be found throughout the scrap yard. Safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, face shields, and additional personal protective equipment as needed, must be worn to eliminate the risks associated with these hazards.

Strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards. Provides a safe environment for all employees, customers and visitors.
Disturbances of work flow and/or irregularities in work schedule are expected and may occur on an intermittent basis. Extra hours may be required sometimes on the weekdays and /or weekends. Travel is not required for this position.

Hourly Pay Rate on offer depends on candidate's experience and skills.
