Job Description

Overall Purpose of Job.



Maintain and manage the Railway's signalling and telecoms systems in a safe condition in order to operate the Swanage Railway's train services and to meet the Company's responsibilities as Infrastructure Controller. Encourage additional volunteer staff to undertake maintenance duties to signalling and telecommunications equipment across the railway.

Health and Safety:



Compliance with Company Health and Safety requirements, advice, and procedures as laid down in the Safety Management System and supporting documents. Ensure that all work is carried out to the appropriate standards. Actively promote health and safety awareness and ensure that all staff are suitably trained as required by their duties, company policy and standards. Make sure all Health & Safety concerns identified, either verbally, in writing, or by audit are investigated as a priority and appropriate and timely action is taken to eliminate immediate risk or danger. Follow up with robust action plans to avoid/eliminate risk of further or future occurrence.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:



Ensure the railway's signalling and telecommunications equipment is maintained in a safe, and compliant condition to operate trains and other rail movements on the railway. Maintain the relevant parts of the Safety Management System and Departmental Standards Manual in collaboration with the Health & Safety and Compliance Manager. Maintain asset records and undertake inspections to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Company's Safety Management System and other relevant standards. Organise maintenance work and respond urgently to any asset failures as required. Compile and maintain an asset register of all signalling and telecommunications equipment. Develop a forward prioritised maintenance plan, based on asset condition information and secure funding for maintenance work. Secure funding through the Company's budgetary and project planning processes to replace and upgrade equipment as required to ensure maintenance objectives are met. Undertake the role of Project Manager as required leading on preparing and delivering new installations or changing existing installations in line with business requirements. Participate in managing work in supervisory roles eg Person in charge of possession (PICOP) and other routine maintenance tasks including carrying out regular inspection , fault finding and maintenance and repair of all S&T equipment. Keep written or electronic records of all inspections and repairs including checking and recording of mechanical and electrical parameters to ensure they are within pre-set limits.

Pay: 25,000.00-26,000.00 per year
