, Bathroom Mountain is seeking a skilled and proactive
Site Automation & Maintenance Engineer
to join our operations team. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer with a strong background in
conveyors, automation, or mechanical handling systems
, and who thrives in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.
You'll play a key role in ensuring the smooth and safe running of our automated equipment, collaborating with both internal teams and third-party service providers to keep operations moving efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Perform
first-line diagnostics, resets, and fault-finding
across a range of automated systems including
conveyors, cranes, and shuttle systems
.
Respond to system errors on HMIs, control panels, and diagnostics with a
structured, problem-solving approach
.
Carry out
manual interventions
and physical maintenance tasks as needed, including
working at height
(with full training and PPE provided).
Collaborate with internal engineers and third-party suppliers to
resolve ongoing or complex technical issues
.
Conduct
daily, weekly, and monthly inspections
of automated equipment, completing preventative maintenance tasks including
lubricating chains, cleaning sensors, and adjusting bearings
.
Maintain and improve
electrical systems
, ensuring safe operation and compliance with regulations.
Manage and maintain a well-organised
inventory of key spare parts
to reduce downtime and ensure fast repairs.
Document all interventions, faults, and maintenance activity in line with company procedures.
Support
continuous improvement initiatives
by identifying recurring faults or system inefficiencies.
Participate in
weekly snag meetings
with third-party service providers, producing reports and following up on technical actions.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Recognised engineering qualification (e.g.
HNC/HND, BTEC Level 3, or NVQ
) in mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, or automation engineering.
Previous experience in a maintenance role within an
automated warehouse, distribution centre, or manufacturing/industrial setting
.
Working knowledge of
conveyor systems, motors, sensors
, and mechanical handling equipment.
Confident using
HMIs, diagnostic tools, or basic control interfaces
.
Comfortable working at height - training and rescue-at-height certification preferred.
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, particularly when liaising with external engineers and support teams.
Physically capable of performing manual tasks involving tools, equipment, and access systems.
Organised and self-motivated, with a proactive mindset and attention to safety and detail.
Experience with
automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS)
or
PLC-controlled machinery
.
Familiarity with
fault logging systems
or warehouse software such as
WCS or WMS
platforms.
