Our infrastructure department supports our product engineering teams by
designing, delivering and maintaining best in class infrastructure for any and all their needs. The infrastructure department comprises the following teams, Developer Platform, SAAS, Vault Infrastructure platform. We get infrastructure at Thought Machine and we\'ve invested heavily in it from day one. We simply
wouldn\'t function without this department.

As Site Reliability Engineering Manager at Thought Machine you will manage a group of talented engineers as they identify issues and implement creative solutions to address them. You will manage your own project deliverables and contribute to the vision and strategy of your division.
We are particularly excited to hear from people who enjoy switching between engineering management and being hands-on with technical work.

DUTIES

  • Working with your team closely with Product Management on defining and delivering our product roadmap.
  • Actively participate in technical discussions and design reviews.
  • Taking a data-driven approach and measuring your team\'s impact on internal and external clients.
  • Contributing to engineering-wide initiatives as part of the engineering management team on anything from recruitment to team processes.
  • Developing engineers into a high performing team and helping them in their career development.
  • Prioritising the work within your team to deliver on roadmaps, product priorities, and daily activities.
  • Leading by example: Code reviews and hands on technical work
Requirements

Essential
  • 2+ years experience of engineering management of SRE/Platform teams.
  • 4+ years of hands-on software engineering or SRE experience
  • Experience of working in a cloud-native environment, using modern technology stacks similar to the stack we use at Thought Machine (Kubernetes, Istio, Kafka, AWS/GCP/Azure, OpenShift, PostgreSQL, CockroachDB, golang/python).
  • Experience with SRE methodologies such as monitoring, reliability, SLIs and SLOs, automation and toil management
  • Technical background to drive technical decisions and great interpersonal skills to drive communication with Product Managers and your users. You should enjoy working in environments where you have a high level of responsibility and autonomy.
  • Comfortable wearing different Engineering Manager hats that suit the changing needs of a team as it evolves.
  • Bring a product-first mindset to platform work.
  • Experience managing teams that are on-call for production systems
Desirable
  • Knowledge of banking / finance.
  • Interest in working on client-facing projects, conducting scoping and defining deliverables.
  • Previously helped recruit and shape brilliant engineering teams.
  • Taken an active role in defining and evaluating effective team processes.
  • Worked in a hyper-growth environment.
