Skilled Labourer

. This role is ideal for an individual who is physically capable, eager to learn, and looking to develop a career within the tank services sector.

The successful candidate will play a vital supporting role across various projects, including

heating oil tank installations, boiler installations, and essential yard work

. Crucially, they will also be directly involved in

high-risk confined space tank cleaning, requiring full breathing apparatus (BA)

, assisting our specialist teams in ensuring safety and efficiency.

We are looking for someone with

experience in at least one of these areas of work

, who is keen to expand their skillset and contribute to a professional and safety-focused team.

Key Responsibilities



The Skilled Labourer / Tank Services Assistant will work under the guidance of Site Supervisors and Multi-Skilled Technicians, with responsibilities including, but not limited to:

Heating Oil Tank Installations:

Assisting with the preparation of tank bases, bunds, and foundations (groundworks). Helping with the safe offloading and positioning of new heating oil tanks. Assisting with the connection of pipework and fittings. Supporting the team in ensuring a clean and compliant installation environment.

Boiler Installations:

Assisting OFTEC-qualified engineers with the installation of oil-fired boilers. Helping to prepare installation areas, move components, and assist with pipework connections. Ensuring tools and materials are readily available for the installation team.

High-Risk Confined Space Tank Cleaning (with Full Breathing Apparatus):

Actively participating in high-risk confined space entries into tanks for cleaning, inspection, and maintenance.

Operating full breathing apparatus (BA) as an entrant

during these operations, after receiving full company training/certification. Performing duties as a vital top-man/safety attendant, monitoring conditions and providing support to entrants when not directly inside the confined space. Assisting in setting up safety equipment, ventilation, and breathing apparatus systems for confined space entry. Helping with the safe removal of sludge, debris, and materials from tanks during cleaning or decommissioning.

Yard Work & General Duties:

Maintaining the company yard in a clean, organised, and safe manner. Assisting with the loading and unloading of vehicles, and moving materials efficiently. General upkeep and maintenance of workshop facilities, tools, and equipment. Assisting with site clearance and waste management activities, ensuring proper segregation and disposal.

General:

Maintaining company vehicles and tools in a safe and serviceable condition. Providing excellent customer service and representing Border Tank Services Limited professionally. Willingness to travel extensively across Scotland and Northern England, with potential for overnight stays.

Skills & Qualifications (Essential)



Proven experience in

at least one

of the following areas: general construction labouring, heating oil tank installations, boiler installations, or industrial site work. Physical fitness and ability to perform manual tasks, lift and move materials, and work in various weather conditions. Basic understanding of health and safety principles on a construction/industrial site. Full UK Driving Licence (clean preferred).

A strong willingness and aptitude to learn and undergo comprehensive training for high-risk confined space entry and breathing apparatus (BA) operation, if not already certified.

Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player.

Skills & Qualifications (Desirable)



Current certification for Confined Space Entry (High Risk) and Breathing Apparatus (BA) training is highly desirable.

CSCS Card. First Aid certification. Manual Handling certification. Experience operating small plant machinery (e.g., telehandler, mini-digger). Experience with vacuum tankers or hazardous material handling. Basic plumbing or mechanical aptitude.

Working Conditions



The role involves regular travel, with potential for overnight stays and working away from home. Work is often performed outdoors in varying weather conditions. Will regularly involve

working in high-risk confined spaces for tank cleaning

and at height. Requires physical stamina and the ability to safely handle tools and equipment.
