Due to continued success, ongoing improvement & expansion of our garage services and premises we are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Mechanic/MOT tester to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of cars and light commercial vehicles ensuring that all work is completed to the highest standards. This role requires strong leadership abilities, technical expertise, and a commitment to safety and quality.
Duties
Supervise and coordinate the activities of the mechanics in the workshop.
Perform diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on various types of vehicles.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies during all maintenance activities.
Carry out MOT testing in line with current DVSA regulations.
Manage workflow, prioritize tasks, and allocate resources to meet deadlines and customer expectations.
Liaise with customers, providing updates on vehicle repairs and ensuring excellent customer satisfaction.
Mentor mechanics, providing guidance on best practices and troubleshooting techniques.
Maintain accurate records of repairs, services performed, and parts used.
Assist in the procurement of tools, equipment, and parts necessary for repairs.
Collaborate with other departments to ensure timely completion of projects.
Conduct regular inspections of equipment to identify potential issues before they become major problems.
Qualifications
Proven experience as a mechanic with a strong understanding of vehicle systems and diagnostic skills are essential.
Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate a team effectively.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Relevant certifications, City & Guilds Level 3 in Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent.
A valid driving licence is required; additional qualifications such as MOT tester would be preferable.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
