Operating manual lathes, milling machines, vertical borer, radial arm/pillar drill to undertake machining tasks to castings & fabrications.
Experience working with hand-held tools
Performing mechanical fitting tasks, including assembly & disassembly of railway vehicle components.
Ensuring precision and quality in machining tasks to meet specified tolerances and standards
Adhering to safety protocols and maintaining a clean and organised workshop environment
Proven experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment
Proven Experience with Conventional Machines: Skilled in operating manual lathes, milling machines, vertical borers for precision machining tasks
Reading Technical Drawings: Ability to interpret engineering drawings to manufacture or repair components to specification
Machining to Fine Tolerances
Experience with using measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers) to ensure accuracy and quality, working both in metric and imperial
Understanding of Materials: Familiarity with machining a range of materials, including steel, cast iron, bronze & non-ferrous metals
CNC Experience (Desirable but Not Essential): Some knowledge of CNC machining is beneficial, for future transition into CNC machining roles
The ability to work well as part of a team, as well as independently
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to use initiative in a fast-paced setting
Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work
