Skills and Social Value Officer

, you'll play a pivotal role in careers education, pastoral care, student well-being and employer engagement. You'll guide learners towards ambitious destinations - whether it's university, apprenticeships, or employment - while working at the heart of our innovative UTC community.

Your work will directly impact post-16 progression, support the growth of our sixth form, and help drive admissions through strategic outreach and marketing.

OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB



The Skills and Social Value Officer will lead on the development of the 'Pathway to Apprenticeship' programme building in technical skills and careers for those identified students to improve their outcomes and destinations. They will also support on pastoral and extracurricular offering at Sixth Form including employer relationships and work experience opportunities. This role will be key in the growth of our sixth form, leading on the marketing of opportunities and delivery of transition events throughout the course of the academic year with the aim to increase admissions across each of our pathways. This role is pivotal in ensuring that students achieve their full potential and receive high-quality pastoral and careers support so they are well-prepared for their next steps and ambitious destinations, whether in higher education, apprenticeships or employment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



Student Support and Progress

Enrich the sixth form provision by developing appropriate pathways and experiences throughout the 2-year provision which ensure students are able to make informed decisions about their future destinations which are high quality and ambitious for all. Work closely with Head of sixth form, subject teachers, tutors and parents to ensure students receive appropriate careers guidance. Lead and monitor the progress of students on the 'Pathway to Apprenticeship' with regard to the development of technical skills, appropriate work placement opportunities and extracurricular activities. Lead on the promotion of extracurricular opportunities within the sixth form inclusive of additional work experiences, trips and national initiatives. Deliver personal development and careers lessons at KS5.

Pastoral Care and Well-being



Promote a positive and inclusive culture within the Sixth Form supporting students to become independent young adults who are prepared for the world of work.

Offer guidance and support on personal, social and emotional matters, liaising with form tutors, teachers and parents to enhance communication with all stakeholders.

Support students in managing workload, stress and mental health concerns, signposting external services where appropriate and working with students to develop study plans where necessary.

Support the development and implementation of study skills and independent learning strategies to contribute towards improved outcomes and progress for students within the sixth form.

Safeguard the students by being a committed member of the safeguarding team.

Higher Education, Careers and Destinations (with Skills Builder Integration)



Design and lead a strategic careers programme aligned with the Gatsby Benchmarks and the Skills Builder Framework, supporting student progression and skill development.

Provide personalised guidance on higher education, apprenticeships and career pathways, encouraging reflection on essential skills such as Aiming High and Staying Positive.

Support students with UCAS and post-18 apprenticeship applications, personal statements and interview preparation helping students articulate their strengths in Leadership, Creativity and employability.

Coordinate careers education and experiences, including university visits and skill-focused workshops that develop Teamwork, Speaking, and Problem Solving.

Stay informed about labour market information (LMI), progression routes and employability trends to ensure the careers programme is current, ambitious, and skills-focused.

Develop strong partnerships and outreach opportunities with employers, universities, training providers and alumni to provide students with meaningful encounters that support skills application in real-world settings.

Organise work experience placements for KS4 and KS5 within our identified weeks.

Coordinate and oversee sixth form outreach programmes with local primary and secondary schools, enabling students to develop leadership and communication skills through mentoring, tutoring, and enrichment activities.

Work collaboratively with SLT and external stakeholders to embed a whole-school/college approach to careers education and essential skills development.

Marketing, Employer Engagement and Student Outreach



Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to design and implement a comprehensive social media strategy aimed at increasing Sixth Form enrolment. Support the recruitment process for Energy Coast UTC by coordinating marketing campaigns and promoting events which support the admissions process. Build and maintain partnerships with local employers, businesses and industry professionals to create high-quality work experience placements, apprenticeship opportunities, and networking events for students across all key stages. Strengthen relationships with external organisations to enhance students' employability and career readiness, fostering purposeful relationships with a wide range of organisations and working closely with the Employer Engagement Officer to deliver impactful employer-led projects. Assist in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of the Sixth Form Development Plan, aligning initiatives with the school's strategic goals. Organise and support key Sixth Form events, including open evenings, induction days, extracurricular and enrichment activities. Lead the development and coordination of the Pathway to Apprenticeship programme, fostering relationships with employers to improve post-16 destinations and career outcomes. Establish and manage a structured T Level placement procedure to ensure placements are of the highest standard and meet curriculum requirements. Conduct visits to current and potential T Level placement providers to strengthen partnerships and ensure consistent quality, developing resources such as a placement handbook to support both students and employers. Contribute to the implementation of fundraising initiatives by engaging employer partners and external organisations to support the school's strategic priorities. Coordinate and implement marketing efforts for Energy Coast UTC, including digital campaigns and content creation across platforms such as Instagram, TikTok and other social media to drive recruitment and raise the school's profile.
