Job Description

Based at our depot in Cambuslang Glasgow, the Hire Desk Controller is a vital part of operations on the front line of skip & waste uplift sales and customer service. Relationship building is the key to success, as the Hire Controller coordinates the entire skip hire process from taking the order through to delivery and collection, liaising with every part of the depot to ensure the needs of the customer are met and that they're satisfied with our service.

On a day-to-day basis, you can expect to be desk-based, working directly with the other members of staff, liaising regularly with our drivers and Ops Team to ensure minimal delay in fulfilling the needs of the customer with readily available skips and close contact.

Job Purpose:



To coordinate the efficient and compliant transport of skips to and from customer sites. The Skip Hire Transport Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring timely collections and deliveries, optimising route planning, and maintaining excellent customer service standards while adhering to safety and legal regulations.

Key Responsibilities:



Daily Scheduling & Dispatch:



Plan, schedule, and dispatch drivers for skip deliveries, exchanges, and collections in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.

Customer Communication:



Handle customer enquiries regarding delivery times, skip sizes, and collections, resolving issues promptly and professionally. Handling new business as well as existing enquiries.

Driver Liaison:



Act as the main point of contact for drivers, providing clear instructions, updates, and support throughout the day.

Compliance & Documentation:



Ensure all transport operations comply with relevant transport legislation, including vehicle weights, driver hours, and waste handling regulations (EWC Codes & Waste Transfer Notes). Maintain accurate records.

Route Optimisation:



Use route planning software or manual methods to maximise efficiency and reduce fuel consumption and vehicle wear.

Monitoring & Reporting:



Track the progress of daily operations, adjust plans as needed, and report on KPIs such as delivery accuracy, vehicle utilisation, and customer satisfaction.

Health & Safety:



Promote and adhere to health and safety standards, ensuring that both drivers and customers operate in a safe environment.

Vehicle & Skip Availability:



Coordinate with yard teams to ensure availability and readiness of skips and vehicles, managing stock levels accordingly.

Key Skills & Experience:



Experience in a transport coordinator, logistics, or scheduling role (skip hire or waste management preferred)

Strong geographical knowledge of the Glasgow and Lanarkshire area

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to multitask and work under pressure

Be able to work on own initiative or part of a team

Proficiency with transport or routing software

Knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., Waste Carrier License, Driver Hours)

Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities

Attention to detail and customer-focused mindset

Office Administrative experience (2 Years Preferred)

Driving Licence - Due to location, the successful applicant will need to have a driving licence and transport to get to work location.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: 30,000.00 per year
