The SMS Audit Officer supports the management of the Aerodrome Safety Management System (SMS) and by delivering internal & external audits. The Post Holder also supports CAA assurance activities, relevant safety committees, producing monthly safety reports, undertaking trends analysis and manages the Quality Management System that supports the CAA Safety Office. Additionally, the SMS Audit Officer provides valuable support in ensuring that the outputs of the safety management system are developed into actions which improve safety for Team Heathrow. The Post Holder works alongside the SMS Officers, not only to maintain standards but also to help drive continuous improvement and foster a culture of safety excellence.

Carry out auditing activities and process confirmation within Airside Operations to ensure that the integrity of the safety management system is assured.
Ongoing management of the Aerodrome Safety Management System (A-SMS), as directed by the Safety Manager.
Provide management information that support the A-SMS in line with CAA requirements, including internal evaluation, monitoring, reporting and action tracking
Manage documentation to support the aerodrome safety and quality management systems. Produce documentation which drives a continuous improvement cycle.
Present safety data, and safety KPI performance (leading, lagging and pre-cursor event indicators) to identify trends, risks and hazards to the operation. Provide data on emerging risks to inform Airside Operations risk registers.
Formal Auditing experience.
Good communication skills - written and verbal, and able to compose high quality formal documentation.
Demonstrable ability to interrogate multiple sources of data to develop stories which drive change. Be able to demonstrate effective stakeholder management skills, able to develop positive and productive relationships.
Excellent IT literacy, experience in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, ability to develop reports or other management information which 'tells a story 'or demonstrate a need for change.
A valid UK driving license and occupational health medical check to enable the successful post holder to obtain an Airside Driving Permit.
Able to follow a defined process but also able to think laterally ('around the problem') when required.
