We are looking for an experienced Software Architect, to join Thales Flight Avionics at what is an exciting time. You will take responsibility for defining and implementing the software architecture on a specific product line within avionics.

Playing a pivotal role within the software team working across a range of technology based solutions for Civil and Military customers in the areas of airborne voice and data communication services to support cockpit and cabin; secure on-board connectivity to facilitate multiple levels of secure information exchange; and tactical mission support from planning to execution and post flight review.

This position will be part of an integrated project team working with architects from a range of engineering disciplines and Thales UK software wider community where you\xe2\x80\x99ll gain exposure to a broad range of Thales products across all business lines.

Key Duties

  • Ensure that software architecture stability is maintained across lifecycle phases from Bid to Delivery
  • Approve the technical, technological, and methodological choices taken in respect of the selected software architecture
  • Guarantee adherence to in-scope standards, reuse policy and product development plans Identifies modelling, simulation and prototyping opportunities
  • Co-ordinates the product definition, and assessment of trade-offs between aspects of cost, customer requirements and technological possibilities
  • To provide knowledge on state-of-the-art software architecting, taking account of future developments
  • Ensure that project safety and airworthiness requirements are addressed
  • To work with the Function to resource, identify and plan for the specific skills / domain expertise which are required as a result of the Business planning.
  • Development Infrastructure (Tools):To support the Function to ensure that an efficient and cost-effective development environment exists.
  • To assist in the establishment and maintenance of a \'road-map\' for the introduction of new elements of the development infrastructure.
  • To support the review of the processes and techniques to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
About you

We are looking for experienced Software Architect who have experience of creating software architectures to meet functional requirements and non-functional requirements

Confident with defining quality attribute scenarios, identifying the tactics to meet them and performing trade-offs between conflicting quality attributes.

Experience of modelling complex software systems e.g. UML design.

Technical Requirements
  • Experience of requirements capture e.g. DOORS.
  • Experience in software implementation e.g. ANSI C, C++.
  • Experience in software integration on target hardware by way of tooled-up processes.
  • Experience in software verification and the use of test tools, e.g. CUnit, VectorCAST, Hudson.
  • Use of Configuration/Change Management tools e.g. Jira, GIT, BitBucket, Nexus.
Desirable
  • Domain knowledge of aircraft based communication systems.
  • Knowledge of Software architectural patterns and architecture frameworks.
  • Knowledge of industry standard open software architectures.
  • Experience in use of COTS and OSS, preferably in the avionics domain.
  • Working in a multi-discipline team with systems and hardware engineers.
  • Avionics development experience, including DO-178C (Level C and D), DO-330 & DO-332 (OOT) Supplement.
  • Use of tools and process for continuous Integration and build management e.g. Jenkins, Bamboo
