We're supporting a growing SaaS company as they make a key hire to strengthen the reliability and consistency of their platform.
This is their first dedicated QA hire - a pivotal role for someone who wants to take ownership of quality, introduce best practice, and influence how software is built as the company continues to grow.
Rather than stepping into a pre-defined testing function, you'll be trusted to design it, evolve it, and embed it into day-to-day product and engineering workflows.
Why this hire is important
As customer usage increases and the product surface expands, quality, stability, and user experience are becoming business-critical.
This role exists to ensure that:
Issues are caught earlier
Releases are predictable and reliable
Quality is shared responsibility, not an afterthought
You'll act as the internal authority on testing and quality, working alongside product and engineering to raise standards across the board.
What you'll be responsible for
Creating and evolving a testing approach that supports a growing SaaS product
Introducing and maintaining automated testing for core functionality, APIs, and integrations
Running hands-on manual testing where automation isn't appropriate
Owning defect management - from discovery through to resolution
Working closely with developers and product to clarify requirements and acceptance criteria
Helping teams think about quality earlier in the development lifecycle
Tracking and communicating quality-related insights and trends
This role gives you long-term influence - the processes you introduce will shape how the product is delivered going forward.
The team currently uses modern web testing tools, with scope to introduce or refine frameworks such as Cypress, Playwright, or Selenium.
What makes this role interesting (and challenging)
You'll be building a QA function rather than inheriting one
There's a constant need to balance speed of delivery with robustness
You'll be influencing engineers, product managers, and stakeholders - not just executing tests
Autonomy is high; success depends on judgement and initiative.
About you
This role will suit someone who:
Has solid commercial experience in software quality assurance
Is comfortable across manual and automated testing
Has worked with modern web testing frameworks
Takes pride in detail, structure, and clarity
Is proactive, organised, and confident working independently
Communicates well with both technical and non-technical colleagues
Useful, but not essential:
Experience setting up QA processes or functions
Testing React-based applications
Exposure to CI/CD pipelines
Basic coding or scripting knowledge
Agile / product-led team experience
