Our Opening and Your Responsibilities




We are recruiting for a Research and Development Test Engineer to join the team at our newly refurbished R&D centre of excellence in Salford. We are the global leading designer and manufacturer of metal detection systems for the food and pharma industries.



This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established team with a diverse skill base. You will join the test team that has a strong software testing skill base and wide systems knowledge. You will have the opportunity to have direct input into defining and developing test artefacts and processes for the department in partnership with the departmental managers.



We have a strong focus on quality, and you will play a key part in championing best practice within the R&D team. Test forms a vital part of the development process of our products, and you will play an important role in providing insight to the state of our projects.



The work is varied and interesting from inclusion in the requirements capture phase of a project, all the way through the product development lifecycle to acceptance testing. The role includes the opportunity to develop test solutions collaboratively within test team, and other members of R&D.

Key Responsibilities Include:



Provide test support to the test manager and the wider R&D team. Creation and execution of test strategies providing appropriate coverage. Design, create and execute test specifications to ensure that all aspects of a design are implemented and suitable for their application. Participate in specification and design reviews to help reduce design iterations through early intervention. Creation and maintenance of process and procedure documentation for test activities. Creation of clear and concise test reports and tracking of planned activities to ensure all stakeholders remain informed. Collaboration with engineers to ensure to provide input at the right time, driving continuous improvement. Specification of tools required to implement and improve processes. Working with our colleagues from different Mettler-Toledo sites on a variety of projects.

What You Need to Succeed



A degree or HND with relevant experience, in a related field. The ability to read and understand specifications and to review project artefacts against them. A strong quality focus in all aspects of your work, and the tenacity to follow through issues to their resolution. The ability to identify and report appropriately on product and project risks related to design and specification. A willingness to undertake professional development to keep your skills up to date, and to further enhance team abilities (for example ISTQB, CEng). A good understand of Azure DevOps. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent Word and Excel skills. A broad understanding of electronics including the ability to read circuit diagrams. Knowledge of industrial communications protocols such as OPC UA and CAN would be beneficial. Familiarity with equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analysers and signal generators. Any previous experience with hardware or systems in the food or pharma sector would be highly beneficial.
