As a Soil Biodiversity Specialist, you help drive business growth by enhancing the interpretation of our data, transforming it into meaningful metrics that are of value to our customers.

Soil Biodiversity Specialist The Role

  • Evaluate current soil and terrestrial invertebrate (ground and aerial) offerings.
  • Collaborate with our Digital Products team to integrate new metrics into our customer-facing dashboards.
  • Provide direct support with data interpretation for clients working on complex projects.
  • Support clients working in areas such as regenerative agriculture, agroforestry, forest management, restoration, impact assessment or land remediation.
  • Support colleagues working on sample types other than soils, such as above-ground insects or the aquatic microbiome, when needed.
  • Provide technical advice to clients to assist their sampling strategies
  • Work with partners & selected clients to gain market insights & feedback on proposed metrics.
Soil Biodiversity Specialist About You
  • A passion for nature and for having a positive impact on the planet.
  • Significant post-education experience in soil ecology with a strong background in biomonitoring.
  • Extensive knowledge of soil ecology.
  • Proficiency at coding in R for manipulation and exploration of data, and for performing ecological analysis for the development of new metrics.
  • Familiarity with functional grouping methods (e.g. feeding guilds, ecosystem services) and how this information is of practical use to our clients.
  • Familiarity with existing terrestrial health metrics used in the UK and overseas. This extends to knowledge on how the metrics are calculated, which species or species groups are used for assessments and any existing biomonitoring policy frameworks in which they are applied such as rare and threatened species, Section 41 species, SSSI, SAC, pollution sensitive groups, Natural England guidance, DEFRA frameworks etc.
Soil Biodiversity Specialist Nice to Have
  • Familiarity with NGS sequencing and bioinformatics.
  • Experience working in applications such as agriculture, environmental impact assessment, habitat restoration.
  • Experience working within regulators and standards.
  • Science communication, marketing and/or outreach experience.
  • Experience with crafting a vision for biomonitoring products, taking into account the competitive landscape, customer needs, and technical constraints.
  • Competencies with additional coding languages beyond R.
