A roofer's labourer is a hands-on worker who supports qualified roofers in building, repairing, and maintaining or installing solar panels on roofs on residential or commercial properties. Their role involves physically demanding tasks such as carrying heavy materials, setting up scaffolding, clearing debris, and assisting with the installation of roofing systems like tiles, slates, or flat roofing membranes. They play a vital part in keeping the worksite safe and efficient, often working at heights and in varying weather conditions.

What you'll do
:
Main Responsibilities
Maintenance visits
- To conduct reactive and scheduled preventative maintenance visits. Supporting the Solar PV Roofer with conducting routine inspections to ensure optimal performance and identify potential issues.
- Supporting in fault finding and rectification of a Solar PV system.
- Maintaining tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition.
- Removing and repair broken tiles and slates.
- Cleaning and pigeon proofing as required.
- Loading/unloading roofing materials and tools
- Setting up scaffolding, ladders, and safety barriers
- Keeping the site clean and organised
- Supporting in completing all necessary documentation associated with the required visits.
Installation
- Support the Roofer in the installation and maintenance of solar roofing systems on residential and commercial properties.
- Support the installing of solar PV systems onto client properties as part of a solar PV installation team. The focus of this role will be the installation of roof mounting kits, bracket and rail systems and affixing solar panels.
- To take joint responsibility for installation plan achievement, ensuring personal and team safety at all times.
- To support the Roofer in completing all necessary documentation associated with solar PV installation.
Communications and Team work
- Building a rapport and good customer service with customers and team members
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers to optimize solar system performance.
- Support the roofer with their duties
- Follow instructions from Roofers and Senior Engineers
- Work closely with the roofing team to meet project deadlines
- Attend toolbox talks and training sessions
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with team members
Health and Safety
- To ensure personal and site health and safety procedures and protocols are always followed to understand, assess and mitigate risks effectively, both prior to visits and dynamically.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
- Wear appropriate PPE and follow safety protocols
- Report hazards or incidents promptly
- Maintain tools and equipment in safe working order
Other duties
- Travel to sites across south of England. Overnight stays will be required to meet Operational requirements of the business.
- The post holder may be required to undertake other reasonable adhoc duties as appropriate and requested by their Line Manager.
What you'll need:
Skills and experience
Labouring experience and knowledge:
- Desire to work in the renewable energy sector, with the role likely to develop to include other renewable technologies.
- Ability to lift heavy materials and work outdoors in all weather
- Physical stamina and ability to work at heights.
Organisational and Communication skills
- Flexible and adaptable approach to work with an ability to work to tight deadlines and a demanding schedule.
- Ability to proactively manage own work and meet deadlines.
- Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious
- Good team working skills with ability to support others
Information Technology skills
- Strong computer literacy and proficiency in using technology and equipment i.e. Apple equipment - iphone, tablet.
Driving skills
- This role will be based on the road and therefore the postholder will require a clean driving license and experience driving long distances.
Location:
You will be home based, travelling to Solar PV sites around the UK. You will have a fully expensed company vehicle, all IT equipment, plus opportunity for further required training.
Hours:
40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
