About the Role



We are seeking an experienced and proactive

Housing Disrepair Solicitor

to join our expanding team. You will be responsible for running a caseload of litigated and pre-litigated HDR matters from inception to settlement, providing high-quality legal representation for social and private tenants suffering from serious property disrepair. This role demands legal precision, operational efficiency, and the ability to progress cases proactively.

Key Responsibilities



Caseload Management

: Independently manage a full caseload of Housing Disrepair claims (predominantly under the Pre-Action Protocol for Housing Conditions and Part 8 CPR where necessary).

Client Interaction

: Regularly liaise with clients to provide case updates, gather instructions, and ensure engagement.

Legal Drafting

: Draft Letters of Claim, pleadings, witness statements, instructions to counsel and experts, and court bundles.

Court Proceedings

: Conduct litigation including issuing proceedings, complying with court directions, and achieving positive settlements.

Team Collaboration

: Provide supervision and guidance to junior staff or paralegals where applicable.

Negotiation

: Negotiate settlements, Part 36 offers, and costs with opponents including local authorities and housing associations.

Compliance

: Ensure cases are conducted in accordance with the SRA Code of Conduct, internal policies, and funder requirements.

Technology

: Confidently utilise Proclaim (or similar CMS), CourtServe, DCS, and digital document bundling tools.

Key RequirementsEssential:



Qualified Solicitor (3+ years PQE) or Chartered Legal Executive with HDR litigation experience. Proven track record of handling Housing Disrepair claims (pre-action and litigated). Sound knowledge of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985, Defective Premises Act 1972, and related legislation. Strong advocacy, negotiation, and drafting skills. Excellent organisation, attention to detail, and time management. Experience working to KPIs and targets in a claimant-focused environment.

Desirable:



Previous experience supervising or mentoring junior staff. Experience working with litigation funders and/or ATE insurers. Ability to contribute to process improvements and operational strategy.
