Job Description

The City of London Police is a recognised Home Office Force based in the heart of the financial centre of London. Our local role, where we are responsible for keeping the iconic City of London safe, alongside our national roles in relation to fraud, cyber and economic crime.



Special Constables are Volunteer Police Officers with the same powers and responsibilities as regular officers. Each Home Office force has its own Specials and in the City Police they form the City of London Special Constabulary (CLSC).



As a Special Constable, you will form part of our Local Policing team, supporting our work in making the City safer. We are looking at recruiting serving special constables who are QSC or equivalent or ex serving police constables who wish to rejoin.

You will endeavour to provide a reassuring presence and protect the public as well as prevent and investigate crimes committed within our geographical communities and beyond. Within our policing boundaries, you will safeguard our diverse community, businesses and the maintaining Kings peace. No two days will ever the same, but incredibly fulfilling and rewarding helping others in their time of need, supporting victims and witnesses of crime and guiding offenders into the criminal justice system.


Eligibility and how to apply for all applicants



All applicants must (not an exhaustive list - please refer to the accompanying information pack for further detail):


Be 17 years old or over. You can start the application process if you are 17 years old, but you must have reached 18 years to start your training. Residency: We do not have specific London Residency criteria and would welcome all eligible candidates who live within 70 miles of the City. You must however have resided in the United Kingdom for a minimum of three years prior to applying. Nationality: If you are not a British national, you will require proof for an indefinite leave to remain in the UK. Any primary occupation you have must not fall on the ineligible occupation list, and you must not have any incompatible conflicts of interest. Be able to pass the an interview based around the CVF framework and job related fitness test. Be able to pass the medical assessment including eyesight standards, Fitness test, DNA, Fingerprints and Substance Misuse Testing. Pass the police vetting checks. Comply with the Force tattoo policy. Be able to commit a minimum of 200 volunteer hours of duty per year. Be available to attend the following

PPST dates: Thursday 4th December - Sunday 7th December and Thursday 11th December - Sunday 14th December.


Training:



Bespoke training will be given to transferees and re-joiners to bridge the gap required, PPST (Officer safety training) and Emergency First Aid at Work, IT systems and all relevant criteria will be offered.
