Job Description

Can you take the lead role in managing the automation requirements of a new show? Do you have a good working knowledge of setting up and operation of electrical and electronic systems? Can you use Foys Flying and Tait Navigator? Are you available to support at the Barbican between the end of September 2025 until the 19 January 2026?





We are looking for an experienced Automation Technician to be the senior member of the Automation Department to manage the 2025 season of Wendy and Peter and Twelfth Night at the Barbican Theatre.



Reporting to the Head of Automation, key areas of responsibility include (please see the full job description and person specification for the comprehensive list):


Assisting in the effective day-to-day running of the Automation department, ensuring that the highest possible standards are maintained. Working closely and collaboratively with the Stage Management, Technical and Production teams. Ensuring repairs and replacements are carried out with the least disruption to stage schedules. Maintaining an awareness of current Health and Safety legislation and Safe Systems of Work.

To be suitable for this role, it is essential that you have:


The ability to take the lead role in managing automation requirements on new productions. Good working knowledge of the specification, setting up and operation of industry standard electrical and electronic control systems. Experience with both Foys Flying and Tait Navigator automation systems. The ability to fault find and rectify problems in electrical and electronic systems. A good working knowledge of Health and Safety legislation together with an understanding of theatre staging, stage engineering, rigging, slinging and flying. Excellent communication and organisational skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a team.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 3 months which is based at the Barbican, London.
