Student Welfare and Support Services works collaboratively on student health and welfare issues with colleagues in colleges, academic and administrative departments, the Oxford University Student Union and key statutory services and other partners outside of the University.
The Sexual Harassment and Violence Support Service sits alongside the Counselling service, Disability Advisory Service, Peer Support Programme, Mental Health Awareness Training and Reported Student Service, all aimed at supporting the wellbeing of our students, and equipping colleagues across the institution with the skills and confidence to help students flourish.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Caseworker supporting survivor students to join us on a permanent basis.

About the Role


The successful candidate will be joining the Service Lead, an existing caseworker, an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) and a team of specialist advisers.

The Specialist caseworker (Survivor Support) offers non-judgmental, pro-active and non-directive guidance and support to students affected by sexual harassment, sexual violence, domestic abuse and/or stalking, whenever and wherever the experience(s) occurred. The post holder will work alongside the student in a trauma-informed and confidential manner, identifying support and welfare needs, exploring impact on the students' studies, assessing risk to the individual and the community, and safety planning.

The Specialist Caseworkers will be responsible for their own casework. They will contribute to policies and the operational development of the service, design and deliver training, facilitate groups and develop a particular area of interest or need, alongside supporting the wider work of the Support Service within colleges, departments and external providers.

About You


Candidates must be able to demonstrate

Commitment to supporting students who have experienced sexual harassment and sexual violence, domestic abuse or stalking so that they are able to fulfil their potential.

Extensive experience of providing 1-1 support, including risk assessment, safety planning and supporting people in crisis. Experience of working with survivors of sexual violence and/or young adults is especially desirable.

An understanding of the barriers to seeking support that students may face, as well as how to implement support and guidance to students from diverse cultural backgrounds, and using an intersectional perspective

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide sensitive and appropriate support, negotiate and advise.

Capacity to quickly understand new information, statutes and processes, and with a proven ability to communicate complex concepts in an accessible and trauma-informed way.

Excellent interpersonal skills, including diplomacy and the ability to influence and inspire the confidence of senior colleagues across the collegiate university.

Able to use office IT systems, particularly Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word, and case management systems.
