Job Description

To manage the Healthcare Science Team (HCS) comprising of Clinical Technologist, Store Manager, Technician and where necessary apprentices at the CYP site in Ashford. To ensure that day to day tasks are given out during the weekly work allocation meetings and are monitored and completed. To make appropriate clinical and reasonable financial recommendations for the purchase of relevant equipment. To provide specialist Assistive Technology and Rehabilitation Engineering technical support within a multidisciplinary team comprising of Speech and language therapists, Occupational therapist, Teachers, Clinical Scientists, Clinical Technologists.



To oversee the management of mounting of communication aids within the CYP team. Additionally, leading more complex mounting projects may involve tasks such as redesign and conducting more advanced risk assessments. To attend client assessments/clinics within other healthcare professionals to assess and support the CYP team with providing Assistive Technology solutions for complex physical, communication and learning needs. To oversee the management of Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) following the CYP systems and procedure in-place.



To independently manage a caseload of clients to whom the post holder is responsible for supporting the provision of appropriate equipment. To be a key link to other local and regional Assistive Technology Services, including Wheelchair and Environmental Control Services, with the purpose of improving outcomes for clients. To provide training for clients, carers and other professional staff in the use of highly specialised equipment and software provided, post assessment. To provide computing and electronic engineering support to configure, maintain and develop solutions for individual clients.



To participate in research & development, product evaluations, deliver specialist training and to maintain professional competence. To design and develop assistive technology solutions to highly complex problems presented by clients with severe disabilities and complex needs, whilst addressing risk, quality and regulatory requirements. To be able design and manufacture bespoke equipment from designs and ideas using CAD and engineering manufacturing techniques. Using light engineering materials (including mild steel, plastics and foams).



To maintain knowledge and develop skills in manufacturing techniques from raw materials to production. To abide to national health and safety policies with regards to workshop practices according to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. To assist in the development of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System within the KMCAT CYP and ACAT teams. This will include the development of the departments technical files to maintain the current regulatory legislation for the manufacture of bespoke medical equipment.



Also, to assist with maintaining and updating quality procedures and work instructions specific to the service. To undertake visits to homes, schools, institutions and clinics throughout Kent and Medway.
