An exciting new opportunity has arisen to join the Maxillo-Facial Laboratory team, working within a diverse multidisciplinary department.
The role will include the provision of a wide range of specialist devices including Orthodontic removable and fixed appliances, Restorative full/partial dentures and obturators and assisting with some Maxillo-Facial devices.
The post holder must maintain a current GDC registration.
The post requires specialist experience in orthodontic technology and dental prosthetics across a broad range of custom medical device design and manufacture.
The post holder is responsible for coordinating their own workload and working across multiple sites (St Richards and Worthing).
The service and role are multidisciplinary, co-operating with and supporting the specialist dental technology team (Orthodontics, Restorative and Maxillo-Facial Prosthetics)
The post holder is expected to support the clinical activity of the senior laboratory service staff working directly with patients.
Excellent team working and good communication skills are required to coordinate the mixed workload.

Provide custom made medical devices, designing and manufacturing as requested.
The post is within a small multidisciplinary team, staffing numbers require the post holder support the whole dental technology and Maxillo-Facial Prosthetics service.
Cross cover other service activity to maintain provision (DT/Oral surgery).
May be requested to support the consultant led clinical services e.g. assisting on the Maxillo-Facial Prosthetics clinic or taking intra oral impressions and face-bow records for specialist dental rehabilitation.
Prioritise own workload, organising multiple clinical and technical tasks.
Have specialist knowledge of relevant material science applied to the construction of medical devices (properties, biocompatibility, rheology, and toxicity).
Maintain a safe environment for all staff and patients within the laboratory and clinical areas.
Complete the databases of medical devices and patients treatments to satisfy the requirements of regulators (Medical Devices Agency/MHRA).
Help with the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and working instructions for the whole laboratory service.
Responsible for monitoring and basic daily maintenance of specialised laboratory equipment.
Monitor stock levels in own area of work.
Responsible for identifying suppliers in terms of cost and quality in the best interests of the Trust for own specialist area and device compliance.
To observe and comply with current health and safety and COSHH legislation.
Manage potentially hazardous working environment (body fluids, toxic chemicals) by good laboratory practice and laboratory compliance with current health and safety and COSHH legislation.
To carry out the above in compliance with Medical Devices Directive 93/42/EEC and in accordance with department Medical Devices Agency registration policy (MRHA).
Ensures implementation of Trust, department and specific service policies.
To undertake any other duties as reasonably requested by Band 8a/7, Consultant and senior Directorate management staff.
