The specialist gastroenterology dietitian is responsible for providing an inpatient dietetic service for patients referred by the Gastroenterologists and Specialist Nurses as well as other medical professionals where patients have a high risk or clinical evidence of malnutrition. The post includes the need to provide group education for patients and staff, support junior member of staff and dietetic students in the department. Key contacts include dietetic colleagues, the Gastroenterologists, ward staff, specialist nurses, catering and pharmacy. The post holder may be asked to provide dietetic services unrelated to gastroenterology and should have a good knowledge of general dietetics.
Inpatient, telephone and group support for patients with gastrointestinal conditions where dietetic intervention are appropriate.
Inpatient management of patients admitted with the complications of malnutrition
Act as a source of expert information for gastroenterology providing clinical updates for dietetic staff, students, medical and nursing staff as appropriate.
Development of dietetic resources and care pathways for relevant patient groups alongside the Dietetic Team Leader and other members of the gastroenterology dietetic team.
