Job Summary
We are seeking a committed and experienced
Specialty Doctor in Psychiatry
to join our dynamic multidisciplinary mental health team at
North London NHS Trust
. The postholder will play a vital role in the assessment, treatment, and management of patients under the supervision of a Consultant Psychiatrist.
Section 12(2) approval under the Mental Health Act is essential
for this role, as the postholder will be involved in Mental Health Act assessments and emergency interventions.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments including risk, mental state, and capacity assessments.
Provide ongoing care and treatment planning in collaboration with the Consultant Psychiatrist and wider MDT.
Participate in daily ward rounds, multidisciplinary meetings, and case conferences.
Undertake Mental Health Act assessments, including emergency assessments, as required.
Complete timely and accurate documentation of clinical encounters and decisions in line with Trust and GMC standards.
Provide leadership and supervision to junior medical staff and trainees as required.
Participate in the on-call rota (if applicable).
Legal and Statutory Duties
Undertake responsibilities under the Mental Health Act, including Section 12 assessments and report writing.
Ensure adherence to the Mental Capacity Act, Safeguarding Adults and Children protocols, and other relevant legislation.
Teaching, Supervision, and Professional Development
Support the teaching of medical students, junior doctors, and allied professionals.
Engage in annual appraisals and continuing professional development (CPD) activities.
Participate in clinical audit and quality improvement projects.
Attend weekly clinical meetings and educational activities.
Person SpecificationQualifications
Essential:
MBBS or equivalent medical degree
Desirable:
MRCPsych or equivalent postgraduate qualification
Registration
Essential:
Full GMC registration with license to practise
Desirable:
Approved Clinician status (or working towards it)
Experience
Essential:
Minimum of 4 years postgraduate experience, with at least 2 years in Psychiatry
Desirable:
Experience in the NHS system
Section 12 Approval
Essential:
Current Section 12(2) approval under the Mental Health Act
Desirable:
Experience conducting Mental Health Act assessments
Skills
Essential:
Excellent clinical, communication, and team-working skills
Desirable:
Audit or QI experience; Teaching/mentoring experience
Other Requirements
Essential:
Commitment to patient-centred, recovery-focused care; right to work in the UK
Desirable:
Familiarity with EMIS, Rio, or other NHS systems
