Overview


We are seeking a dedicated Speech & Language Support Worker to join our team. The aim of the S&L Support Worker is to support families and children in a range of parent support services, in the ward areas.

The post holder will work as part of the Surestart team to promote, deliver and facilitate speech & language development in children aged 0-4 years. The service will be delivered in community, group and home/family settings and will involve a close working relationship with the LAST Surestart Speech & Language Therapist and Family Support Workers + Creche teams.To work with LAST Speech & Language Therapist, Family Support Workers and creche staff to support and develop speech & language activities including resources within group settings.

To collaborate with the LAST Speech & Language Therapist to develop new

programmes and training in which parents are interested.

To work closely with LAST Speech & Language Therapist and Child Care workers to develop and facilitate speech & language activities with the 2 Year

Old Programme and Creche.

To work closely with Child Care workers to ensure observations/assessments

are carried out on children attending the 2 Year Old Programme/Toddler

compliance with DE guidelines.

Work in collaboration with LAST Surestart Speech & Language Therapist, to

source, prepare and disseminate written advice and information promoting

Speech & Language skills in children aged 0-4 years.

To initiate the development of a number of programmes promoting speech & language development using drama, art & craft, music, dance, storytelling etc.

To give appropriate information in consultation with LAST Speech & Language therapist to parents and refer on as necessary on issues such as speech & language development, diet, dental, budget, parenting, general health and hygiene.

To encourage Speech and Language Development through Stay and Play Groups Creche and the 2 Year Old Programme with programs such as Changing Time Is Chatty Time, Ready Steady Sing, Infant Massage and Storytelling.

To assist and support identified parents to carry out prescribed Surestart Speech & Language Therapy Home programmes under the supervision LAST speech & language therapist e.g. Book Corner.

To facilitate Information sessions for parents regarding their child's speech & language development under the supervision of LAST speech & language therapist. To facilitate Information sessions for parents regarding the 2 Year Old Programme.

To deliver Book Start baby packs Book start+ Pack. to appropriate aged children .

To meet with parents as necessary to review child's progress on the 2 Year Old Programme/Toddler and be available on request to answer any queries and concerns under the supervision of LAST speech & language therapist.

Include and welcome all parents and children to all groups and venues.

To work in collaboration with Family Support team to ensure holistic approach for families.

Qualifications



Level 5 Diploma for Leadership for Children's Care, Learning & Development (Management) or equivalent / S&L therapist

Completion of Speech & Language Training e.g. Elklan or other

Working pattern



Monday to Friday 9.00am to 3.30pm 48 weeks per year

This post involves working with children and is subject to the provisions of the safeguarding vulnerable groups (NI) order 2007

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: 20,464.00-27,711.00 per year
