ROLE



You will work as a team member, providing direct day-to-day, speech and language support to children aged 5-18 with language and communication difficulties in all of our Staffordshire and Cheshire schools.

Key Responsibilities



Provide speech and language therapy for pupils attending each of our Schools through

individual, group and/or teacher directed sessions

Provide assessment for current and prospective pupils as needed

Monitor pupil progress towards their speech and language targets

Contribute to staff training

Provide written documents at a professional standard

Role Overview



The speech and language therapist will provide for pupils with a range of special educational needs, including autism, social and mental health, and cognition.

This post will sit within a multidisciplinary therapy team that serves each of the schools.

The development of Speech and language is already deeply embedded in our schools, with all staff trained in ELKLAN and PECS, an innovatively adapted curriculum and external support for pupils who require it. The appointment of a speech and language therapist will allow us to bring this support in-house.

Responsibilities



Provide high quality speech and language therapy services, including assessment, diagnosis and therapy

Offer specialist intervention demonstrating clinical effectiveness through use of evidence-based practice and outcome measures while being able to adapt practices to meet individual pupils' needs

Perform therapy services utilising a variety of service delivery models including individual, joint, multidisciplinary, group and teacher directed sessions

Manage a complex and demanding caseload of children with a range of special educational needs

Create speech and language targets for integration into pupils' personal progress plans

Attend and participate in regular multidisciplinary team meetings

Monitor and review pupils' ongoing communication needs

Liaise with staff to support the implementation of appropriate communication strategies and class-based speech and language development activities

Create intervention programmes for class-based implementation

Provide reports to contribute to pupils' annual reviews and end of year reports

Maintain records of invention according to professional standards

Maintain professional status and competence, taking responsibility for keeping own knowledge and skills up to date by engaging in continuing professional development

Attend regular clinical supervision with a suitably experienced SALT

Manage the emotional consequences of working with children with a range of special educational needs

Work within the framework of relevant procedures including safeguarding/child protection, behaviour management, equality and diversity

Maintain registration with the Health Professions Council as a practising Speech and Language Therapist

Represent the school at multi agency meetings

Seek relevant information from other professionals and staff in order to make differential diagnoses

Explain your role to pupils, parents/carers, staff and visitors

Motivate pupils to engage in speech and language therapy by utilising a range of activities, strategies and techniques

Attend and participate in relevant clinical and organisational meetings

Promote positive relationships with pupils, families, staff and external professionals

Use IT effectively

Participate in the induction of new staff members

Construct/adapt appropriate communication resources for various curriculum and play activities

Assess, manage and provide communication aids

Maintain an up to date knowledge of new techniques and development within the field of speech, language and communication

Organise own caseload in partnership with the therapy lead and executive headteachers

Be flexible to the demands of the environment including unpredictable events, deadlines and unexpected interruptions

Monitor own resource levels and requirements and source and request new equipment and resources as appropriate

Attend mandatory training and induction courses as requested by the executive headteachers

Contribute to developing new policies

Any other reasonable tasks deemed appropriate by the Schools

Pay: 29,465.00-34,116.00 per year
