Role Definition




To lead the Spice Room team in delivering accurate, safe, and traceable batching of ingredients for all products that require. Responsible for maintaining high standards in GMP, allergen control, batch compliance, and ingredient usage. Ensure efficient daily operations that meet plan requirements while supporting trials, product launches, and process improvements.

Daily Operations & Batching Accuracy




Oversee all ingredient and spice batching, weighing, and labelling - ensuring batches meet spec and traceability rules.


Validate all blends meet product formulations and allergen declarations.


Work closely with blending and production teams to ensure on-time delivery of correct batches.


Manage recipe and batch changeovers, minimising risk of cross-contamination or waste.

Traceability, Compliance & Quality




Ensure 100% traceability of all ingredients used - from receipt to issue.


Follow and enforce GMP, allergen segregation, hygiene, and documentation protocols.


Participate in traceability drills, audits, and internal checks.


Conduct regular checks of batch sheets, allergen records, and label integrity.




Stock Control & NPD Support




Monitor and manage raw material usage against plan - report on variances and overuse.


Support product trials and new launches with correct ingredient batching.


Liaise with planning and NPD teams to prepare for launch and sampling work.


Report low stock levels and support stock rotation rules (FIFO).

Team Leadership & Safety




Supervise and coordinate the spice room team, including breaks, training, and task assignment.


Conduct shift handovers with clear communication of issues and status.


Ensure adherence to health & safety, PPE, and hygiene standards at all times.


Support training of new starters and upskilling of team members.

KPIs / Success Measures




Batch accuracy (% deviation from spec)


Traceability pass rate (internal & external audits)


GMP / allergen audit scores


Line compliance to SOPs


Waste and overuse trends


Team compliance with hygiene and safety.

Batch Planning & Timing Awareness




Understand production demand and communicate regularly with blending and planning teams to forecast daily batching requirements.


Be aware of how many batches are needed to support the daily plan, including any changeovers or allergen segregations.


Maintain awareness of standard batch preparation timings per recipe to plan workload and staffing accordingly.


Ensure batching is paced to keep ahead of production requirements without creating unnecessary WIP or delays.

Skills & Qualities




Strong attention to detail and documentation


Confident in numeracy and following formulations


Clear communicator and hands-on leader


Strong understanding of allergens, stock rotation, and traceability principles


Organised and calm under pressure - especially during changeovers or launches
