We are seeking a reliable and organised Kitchen Assistant to support Saturday food preparation and service for high-performance hockey teams. The hours of work will be from 10:00 to 20:00. The assistant will prepare meals, maintain a clean kitchen, and ensure food is ready on time to serve 15-20 players in intervals of approximately every 45 minutes during training and game days. This position is perfect for individuals looking to gain experience in a kitchen environment, whether in a restaurant, catering service, or other food-related settings.
Responsibilities
Preparing ingredients and basic cooking tasks as directed (e.g. chopping vegetables, portioning meals, cooking the dishes in the oven).
Ensure meals are prepped and ready to serve at scheduled intervals for groups of 15-20 players.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area throughout the day.
Follow food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards at all times.
Clean dishes, utensils, equipment, and kitchen surfaces regularly.
Set up and break down food service stations efficiently.
Prepare and serve food in large quantities.
Deliver superior service and maximise customer satisfaction.
Ability to follow instructions and work well in a fast-paced environment.
Good time management skills and attention to detail.
Physically able to stand for long periods and lift light to moderate kitchen supplies.
Reliable, punctual, and a team player.
Willingness to help in the bar area if needed on shift.
Qualifications
GCSE grade 9 - 4 (or equivalent) in English and Maths would be advantageous
Level 2 Food Hygiene Certification would be desirable or be prepared to undertake such a qualification
Experience
Some customer service experience would be beneficial
Experience working in a food and beverage environment
Experience working in a fast-paced environment
Skills and Abilities
Excellent customer service skills and willing to go above and beyond to help with the needs of our customers
Knowledge on hygiene practices and food safety handling
Self-starter and able to work under own initiative
Team player who is strong at building relationships with customers and colleagues
Time management skills- capable of serving and prepping foods in a timely manner.
