Overview
P&E Sports is a school lettings and community sport provider, working in partnership with schools to activate their facilities for the benefit of pupils and the wider public. The Sports & Community Co-ordinator role is a hybrid post designed to increase community engagement, footfall and participation through a mix of leisure centre operational duties and programme development and delivery.
This is a hands-on role for someone passionate about sport, community and youth engagement - someone who can spot gaps, build programmes from scratch and deliver sessions that bring people into our centres. You'll play a key role in helping schools become vibrant hubs for activity during evenings, weekends and school holidays.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leisure Centre Operations (50%) - Duty Officer
Support with day-to-day leisure centre duties including:
Opening and closing facilities
Customer service and bookings
Basic site maintenance checks
Supervising public access and ensuring safe usage of facilities
Liaise with hirers and ensure smooth transitions between bookings
Maintain high standards of cleanliness, professionalism, and safety on site
2. Community Engagement & Delivery (50%) - Sports & Community Co-ordinator
Identify activity gaps across your allocated sites and help create a programme of relevant sessions (e.g. gymnastics, boxing, youth clubs, fitness classes, holiday camps)
Deliver a range of sessions directly - including sports coaching, youth clubs, birthday parties and holiday camps.
Recruit and manage external coaches or session leads where needed
Promote and grow participation in programmes, with a focus on inclusivity and regular engagement
3. Marketing & Promotion
Create and distribute promotional content across social media, email and printed materials (using tools like Canva)
Work with schools to promote sessions to pupils and parents, including assemblies and class visits.
Attend community events to promote opportunities and build local awareness
Ensure all sessions and activities are well publicised and accessible to the target audience
4. Programme Development & Reporting
Monitor participation and provide regular reports on engagement and outcomes
Recommend improvements or new session types based on community demand and site capacity
Maintain accurate registers, feedback forms and activity logs
Align delivery with wider P&E Sports goals around youth engagement, community wellbeing and social impact
Person Specification
Essential:
Experience delivering sport, youth work or activity-based community programmes
Coaching qualifications or youth work certifications
Passion for increasing participation in physical activity and community services
Confidence to lead sessions and work with children and young people (ages 5-16)
Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with parents, schools and external providers
Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently
Basic IT skills and experience using tools like Canva, Word, and email
Willingness to work evenings and some weekends
Desirable:
Experience delivering school assemblies or marketing to schools
Experience in recruitment or managing part-time delivery staff
Safeguarding and First Aid qualifications
Access to transport and ability to travel between sites
