Sports Maintenance Operative

About the role?

This role is part of a service-focused team responsible for maintaining and preparing a wide range of sports pitches across the city, including Bowls greens, Pitch & Putt greens and fairways, Cricket tables and wickets, Football pitches, and Croquet greens. Key duties include litter picking, grounds maintenance tasks such as hoeing, sweeping, pruning, hedge and grass cutting, and operating various vehicles and fine turf machinery like cylinder mowers and boom sprayers. The postholder will perform daily equipment checks, basic tool maintenance, complete required paperwork, and uphold health, safety, equality, and customer care standards. Flexibility to undertake additional duties as directed is also expected.

The ideal candidate will hold a full UK driving licence with trailer entitlement, along with PA1, PA6, and PA2 spraying qualifications, and LANTRA or equivalent certification in the safe use of ride-on and pedestrian mowers. They should have a sports turf qualification or relevant experience, including knowledge of pests, weeds, and diseases, and demonstrable experience working with fine turf sports grass such as bowling greens and cricket wickets. The role requires physical capability, teamwork, and a willingness to operate and be trained on mechanical maintenance equipment. Strong customer service skills, the ability to work in all weather conditions, a basic understanding of health and safety responsibilities, and clear communication skills are also essential.

This role is for 37 hours per week, but to ensure flexibility and promote an inclusive workplace part time hours or a job share agreement will be considered.
