Spray Painter Overview
The Spray Painter is responsible for preparing, coating, and finishing surfaces using various spray systems to achieve high-quality, durable finishes. This role involves surface preparation, mixing and matching coatings, applying finishes accurately, and maintaining equipment while ensuring safety and quality standards are met.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare surfaces
by sanding, filling, masking, cleaning, and priming to ensure optimal finish quality.
Mix, match, and thin paints, lacquers, stains, and coatings
according to specifications.
Operate spray equipment
including HVLP, air-assisted, airless, 2-pack systems, and other finishing tools.
Apply coatings
to timber, metal, plastic, or composite surfaces depending on project requirements.
Inspect finished work
for colour accuracy, smoothness, coverage, and overall quality.
Perform touch-ups and rework
where necessary to meet quality standards.
Maintain spray booths, guns, filters, compressors, and related equipment
, ensuring proper cleaning and safe operation.
Monitor drying and curing times
and handle products carefully to prevent damage.
Follow all safety procedures
including PPE use, correct chemical handling, and ventilation requirements.
Work closely with workshop teams
to meet production timelines and ensure consistent finish quality.
Skills and Qualifications
Proven experience as a spray painter or finisher (e.g., furniture, joinery, manufacturing, automotive, industrial).
Strong understanding of spray application techniques and finishing processes.
Knowledge of paint/coating types such as lacquers, 2-pack, polyurethane, acrylic, stains, primers, and sealers.
Ability to achieve consistent finish quality and colour matching.
Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
Desirable:
Experience in wood finishing, automotive refinishing, or industrial coatings.
Familiarity with sanding equipment, polishing, and surface correction techniques.
