BACKGROUND

International Medical Corps UK is a global humanitarian organisation saving and rebuilding lives through healthcare, training and community development. International Medical Corps UK works alongside International Medical Corps and International Medical Corps Croatia, currently responding to humanitarian emergencies and communities afflicted by conflict, poverty and natural disaster in about 30 countries.

JOB PURPOSE

The purpose of this role is to to provide leadership and technical oversight of a multi sectoral team that includes, health systems strengthening, primary healthcare, MHPSS, child protection, gender-based violence, water, sanitation and hygiene, nutrition and food security and cross cutting areas such as gender, knowledge management and learning.

The Senior Director will oversee and ensure timely and high-quality technical support to international Medical Corps country programs worldwide; supervise and manage a global multi-disciplinary team, oversee programmatic progress and support the development of harmonized processes and systems with the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) team. The postholder will also spearhead evidence-based practices through improved knowledge management and learning including making significant contributions to new business development, particularly in technical strategy, design, and innovations with sector teams.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership and Management

  • Lead oversight and delivery of the technical program strategy, using measurable benchmarks and annual review cycles that monitor program quality and growth
  • Build alignment with the organisation\'s international programs platforms and proactively engage in operational developments as relevant to program management.
  • Support new business development through, providing leadership in technical conceptualization and design to maximize our program leverage and impact.
  • Ensure direct collaboration with the Emergency Response Unit at HQ and Emergency Response Teams during acute onset emergencies for integrated assessments, managing Technical Unit staff deployments, and training of ERT and Technical Unit staff in program delivery approaches.
  • Lead the inter-department collaboration and coordination for technical programs through structured working group mechanisms, informal collaborative processes and co-leading of annual department meetings.
Program Quality and Evidence-Based Approaches
  • Lead the development of standardized processes and tools such as adoption of minimum standards, SOPs, and tools to capture best practices and \'data for decision making\', monitoring, and outcome measurement to support quality assurance for key program areas in collaboration with sector technical teams and MEAL unit.
  • Collaborate with sector teams and M&E on Operational Research and implementation science, identify new partnerships and build HQ and country team capacities to deliver research results that inform program approaches and drive innovations.
  • Establish and institutionalize knowledge management and learning systems that incorporate program evaluation findings, lessons learned, achievements and gaps, and develop all the tools required to support learning practices.
  • Promote the development, adaptation, testing and mainstreaming of standardized practices in needs assessment, project design, and implementation and monitoring.
Building Core Competencies and Capacities
  • Ensure the development of sectoral core competency tools; assess current HQ and field staff need for core competencies strengthening; and investment in diverse approaches to building the necessary range of competencies.
  • Lead the learning and development opportunities in collaboration with the Human Resource Department, and promote a professional growth model for interns, volunteers and fellows in the respective sector program areas.
  • Develop a mentorship program for sector managers and their teams to ensure high levels of motivation, commitment, capacity, and teamwork that will collectively promote retention and high performance.
Representation and Partnerships
  • Identify and facilitate appropriate partnerships and linkages with other organizations (UN agencies, NGOs), academic institutions, private sector, to advance program innovations and leverage promising results to scale program coverage.
  • Contribute to the development of communications strategies and products that promote the organization impact to all stakeholders, including institutional and private donors;
  • Ensure that the Technical Unit represents International Medical Corps in relevant global meetings through participation and presentations in global working groups, conferences, and similar fora.
  • To perform other duties, responsibilities and special projects as assigned by line manager. Job Requirements

CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION
  • As a minimum, Master\'s degree in global health, Public Health or in a related field.
  • Ideal profile will have Doctorate of Public health or PHD in global Health, Public Health or working towards this qualification.
  • Demonstrable experience in similar role providing leadership and management to health programing in humanitarian context with at least 10+ years of management experience.
  • Demonstrated senior level experience at both field and HQ levels in design and delivery of humanitarian and transitional programs with INGOs or contracting agencies with similar set up to International Medical Corps UK
  • The role requires creativity, versatility and know-how while also possessing demonstrated experience managing multi-cultural teams with diverse skill sets
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with extensive field experience leading technical teams and managing multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience in engaging UK, EU, US and UN donors at strategic levelAbility to effectively analyze complex problems and suggest solutions that would have positive impact on the organization needs
  • Outstanding communications skills including the ability to write technical documents and deliver high level presentations
  • Successful in communication and advocacy with international agencies including,donors, philanthropy, government officials, and other INGOs
  • Commitment to promote and encourages a culture of compliance and ethics throughout the organization
  • Excellent written and spoken English and fluency in a second language preferred, (French, Arabic, Spanish)
  • Willingness to be deployment at very short notice on business
