Job Description

We have a very exciting opportunity for a Band 5 staff nurse to join our Recovery team on a 1 year fixed-term contract/ 1 year secondment. We are a 12 bedded recovery unit in a busy District General Hospital caring for both adult and paediatric patients immediately post-anaesthesia following a range of surgery and procedures.



We are seeking to recruit an organised, enthusiastic and motivated nurse/ODP (NMC or HCPC registered) with at least 6 months post qualification experience of working at band 5 within an acute area in the NHS. The candidate will demonstrate a passion for providing excellence in patient care and possess first-rate communication skills.



Recovery is an innovative unit providing a high standard of post-operative care as well as providing support for a range of specialities within the West Suffolk Hospital; this includes supporting Critical Care Services as part of the West Suffolk Hospital escalation plan. The successful applicant will be part of a forward-thinking team who take pride in driving new initiatives forward.



As a new member of the team you will receive a comprehensive induction supported by identified mentors as well as the rest of the team.



As a registered nurse within recovery, you will work as part of the team looking after post-operative patients of all specialities however, you will have responsibility and accountability for your own patients with the support of the nurse in charge.



You will be expected, after suitable training, to receive unconscious patients, both adult and paediatric, from theatre, be confident in using the A-E assessment process to plan their ongoing post-operative care whilst in Recovery until safe and clinically ready for discharge to ward.



This role is varied and there are multiple development opportunities.



We would expect the successful candidate to have completed 6 months post-registration experience in another acute area within the NHS.

Job responsibilities



1. Assessing



1.1 Ensures the maintenance of accurate clinical observations of patient's condition.



1.2 Ensures the significance of data to patient's condition and progress is interpreted and acted upon ie reported to shift co-ordinator.



1.3 Ensures care problems or needs are identified and discussed with patients, their relatives and with appropriate members of the multi-professional team.



2. Planning



2.1 Identifies the priorities of care for patients.



2.2 Identifies realistic goals.



2.3 Organises time and equipment to enable delivery of care.
