Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen and we are looking to recruit enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 Staff Nurses to join our Day Stay Unit (DSU)at Broomfield Hospital and Braintree Community hospital .



These posts will involve the candidate working with the surgical patient through the pre operative and post operative periods undertaking a nurse led admission and discharge role.



DSU undertakes a surgical pathway for patients undergoing an elective procedure who are admitted, operated upon, and discharged on the same calendar day. DSU also supports an emergency ambulatory pathway for urgent operations that can be arranged in 12 to 24 hours.



DSU works alongside The Theatre and Admission and Day Unit (TADSU) which is located in the main Theatre complex and undertakes a surgical pathway for patients undergoing a day stay pathway and an inpatient pathway. There may be occasions when you will be required to work within TADSU.



These units work together to provide safe and effective care to our patients across specialities including urology, vascular, breast, general, gynaecology, max fax, ENT, orthopaedic, plastic, ophthalmology and pain clinic.



The successful candidates will be expected to complete Band 5 day surgery ward based competencies relevant to the surgical patient pathway. Additionally the successful candidates may have the opportunity to Theatre competencies as DSU at Broomfield Hospital has its own Integral Theatres.



If successful you, some of your duties will include:



Nurse led admission and discharge providing holistic patient care.



Identify and assess the potential risks involved in work activities and processes for self and others



Contribute to the monitoring and control of the use of resources within budgetary limits.



Work as part of a team with good communication skills liaising with multiple departments.



Develop own supervisory skills and competence.



Contribute to the supervision, development and training of individual staff to enable them to function effectively in their role and responsibilities in accordance with the Trust polices and standard operating Procedures.



Contribute to the collection, recording and storage of information.



Ensuring flexibility to ensure the safe delivery of this service.
