We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Stonemason to join our growing reactive construction team. The successful candidate will be responsible for shaping, laying, and finishing stonework for various building projects across Edinburgh. This role offers an opportunity to work on diverse masonry projects, contributing to the creation of durable and aesthetically pleasing structures. Candidates should possess a strong attention to detail, excellent craftsmanship, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Duties
Interpret technical drawings and specifications to execute stonework accurately.
Cut, shape, and carve stones using hand tools, power tools, and specialised masonry equipment.
Lay bricks and stones in accordance with established patterns and standards.
Mix mortar and other materials required for bonding stones securely.
Install stone facades, cladding, retaining walls, and other masonry features on construction sites.
Perform repairs and restoration work on existing stone structures.
Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations.
Maintain a clean and organised work environment, including proper storage of tools and materials.
Skills
Proficiency in using hand tools such as chisels, hammers, trowels, and levels.
Experience with bricklaying, masonry techniques, and stone carving.
Ability to operate power tools safely and effectively.
Knowledge of carpentry principles useful for framing or supporting structures during masonry work.
Familiarity with roofing techniques that may involve stone or similar materials.
Basic welding skills are advantageous for structural repairs or custom fittings.
Strong organisational skills with an eye for detail to ensure precise craftsmanship.
Good physical stamina to handle heavy materials and perform manual labour over extended periods.
