The WPB Chief of Staff team provides the UK WPB Executive Committee with dedicated, forward thinking, strategy support. Leading key initiatives across UK WPB; defining strategies across the business and telling the story of these to the Executive Committee and UK Board; and leading operational activities for UK WPB including financial budgeting, communication, people engagement and other critical initiatives.

The Strategy & Planning Manager will form part of the UK WPB Strategy team in the Chief of Staff organisation. The team defines the overarching UK WPB strategy and acts as a catalyst and driver for strategic change. The team constructively challenges the business with critical thinking and innovative insight to improve the way we do business.

The Strategy & Planning Manager will work within the Strategy team to:

  • Lead on the definition of strategy for UK WPB across customer, product, operations and people
  • Conduct external market analysis and benchmarking
  • Define UK WPB\xe2\x80\x99s response to strategic challenges and get buy-in to these from the Executive Committee
  • Define commercial targets to deliver our strategy
The role will have visibility across the UK WPB business and the opportunity to work directly with UK WPB Executive Committee members.

The role comprises of the following key areas of responsibility:
  • Undertake analysis (internal and external) to inform UK WPB strategy
  • Bring a customer centric and creative approach to defining future WPB strategy
  • Own engagement with external consultancies to bring innovation and drive challenge for UK WPB business areas
  • Support UK WPB Executive Members on deep dives into strategic challenges for UK WPB
  • Horizon scanning (internal and external) to identify insights and emerging issues that may impact UK WPB\xe2\x80\x99s strategy or performance
  • Providing strategic papers for key UK WPB and other Executive governance forums
Requirements

The ideal candidate for this role will have:
  • Strong planning and analytical skills
  • Experience working in relevant market/context, i.e. Retail Banking/Wealth
  • Past working experience in Strategy (desirable)
  • Experience in taking a data based approach to solution definition and proven ability in conceptual thinking and analytical reasoning
  • A keen problem solver, with tenacity to overcome challenges and obstacles
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills; an ability to communicate with impact to stakeholders at all levels, ensuring complex information is articulated in a meaningful way
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, able to develop and foster strong relationships with senior leaders, stakeholders and business sponsors across the organisation, interacting with a high degree of confidence
  • A broad understanding of financial budgets/statements/models, with experience of analysing data effectively for planning, forecasting and reporting
  • Ability to deal with and communicate complex commercial information and challenges by creating business presentations with report producing and PowerPoint skills of the utmost quality
  • A highly organised approach with expert planning and time management, particularly on meeting urgent deadlines and adhering to short turnaround time. The role holder will have a high degree of motivation to ensure delivery of objectives in a timely, efficient and effective manner, delivered with high energy and enthusiasm
