Operating Area
The work is primarily based across the Midlands, including Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, and Staffordshire. Please note that we also cover sites nationwide as required by our contracts.
The Role
We are seeking a Street Lighting Electrician to join our family-run business. This role involves electrical and civil engineering work related to street furniture.
The majority of the work is basic electrical works and is not suited for Electricians seeking a technical, complex electrical career. This job is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, is physically fit, and is comfortable with a varied role that includes general labouring and civil works.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Electrical Termination: Performing electrical termination works, including lantern replacements (disconnection/reconnection of 3-core flex into an existing cutout, and potentially installing a double pole isolator).
SWA Cable Work: Performing electrical terminations, including glanding and terminating SWA (Steel Wire Armoured) cables, including but not limited to sizes ranging from 6mm to 25mm.
Installation & Maintenance: Installation and maintenance of street lighting furniture (columns, signs, bollards).
Testing & Documentation:
Electrical testing and inspection of all street lighting and street furniture, including Earth Loop Testing and full installation testing in accordance with the current 18th Edition of the Wiring Regulations.
Completing test certificates and all related paperwork to the required standards immediately following the testing.
Fault Finding: Analysis and fault finding on installations and PL supply cables.
Civils/Groundwork: Carrying out excavation, trenching, and re-instatement of the highway/pavements to the required standard, including:
Excavating by hand/machine.
Digging access trenches for cable and pipe laying.
Re-surfacing pavements/roads.
Jointing: Cable jointing and identification of supply cables.
General:
Working on highways and lighting furniture (erection, fixing, dismantling).
Pulling cables.
Working at heights using appropriate plant (IPAF may be required).
Inspection and cleaning of lighting equipment and signs.
Undertaking general duties in the depot and all reasonable duties as instructed by your supervisor.
Compliance & H&S: Completion of required documentation to agreed standards and strict compliance with all appropriate legislation and high health and safety standards.
Working Environment
The job involves a large amount of physical work using a range of hand and mechanical tools and carrying heavy materials. It requires working outside in all variable weather conditions. Due to working near open traffic on highways, adherence to high health and safety standards is paramount. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided, and training must be undertaken for all mechanical equipment.
Customer Facing: Courtesy and good manners are expected at all times when working in close proximity to the public and client officers.

Driving Licence (Full Clean Licence)
NVQ Level 3 Electrical Qualification
Part 1 and 2 Electrical Installation
AM2 (Achievement Measurement 2)
Inspection and Testing (2391 or equivalent)
Applicants MUST be over 18 years of age due to insurance requirements.
Experience of working outside.
Flexibility regarding shift patterns or tasks allocated.
Excellent Communication skills (verbal and written).
Experience working at heights and on highways/high-speed roads.
