Employment Terms:

36.5 hours per week, 40 weeks per annum

Purpose of the Post:



To oversee the day-to-day running, timetabling, and operational aspects of students placed on outreach across all sites. To lead, inspire, and support Outreach Key Workers in delivering high-quality, trauma informed education and behavioural support to some of the most challenging and vulnerable students. To promote positive engagement strategies that empower students to re-engage with learning, build confidence, and develop clear pathways into adulthood. To ensure the outreach provision operates to a consistently high standard, offering inclusive, safe, and nurturing learning environments that reflect the values and aims of Poles Apart.

The post holder will work four days on timetable directly with students and one day dedicated to planning, preparation, and coordination duties.

Main Duties and Responsibilities



Outreach Coordination

Alongside Centre Managers, oversee the operational delivery of outreach programmes across all sites, ensuring smooth day-to-day running and consistency in practice. Plan and maintain oversight of all outreach students' timetables, ensuring they are effectively implemented, monitored, and adapted to meet student needs. Work with Centre Managers to manage the timetabling, allocation, and deployment of outreach staff, ensuring effective coverage, student engagement, and curriculum access. Work with Centre Managers to create and maintain bespoke timetables tailored to individual students' needs, aspirations, and academic targets. Have oversight of the weekly planning across outreach provision, ensuring sessions are well-structured, purposeful, and aligned with student targets. Create and maintain yearly overviews to ensure breadth, progression, and variety of curriculum coverage across outreach programmes. Plan the weekly Life Skills lesson and ensure it is accessible, engaging, and relevant for both in-centre and outreach students. If required, work with Centre Manager to lead on managing outreach referrals, to ensure efficient transitions and accurate documentation. Alongside the Operations Manager and the Centre Manager, oversee operational aspects including budgets, food requirements, medication, food hygiene, GDPR compliance, and vehicle logistics. Conduct regular reviews of outreach provision, ensuring safety, quality, and educational value are upheld. Act as the main point of contact for all outreach pupils, providing advice, direction, and support to staff when challenges arise. Represent Poles APart professionally in multi-agency and review meetings, providing detailed feedback on student progress and engagement. Deliver outreach sessions across all sites where required, as directed by the Operations Manager, ensuring consistent standards of education and engagement.

Student Engagement and Behaviour Support

Lead on embedding a strong behaviour and engagement culture across the company with a particular focus within the outreach team, modelling effective, consistent, and trauma informed practice. Support staff in understanding and applying trauma informed approaches to de-escalation, communication, and relationship building. Create and implement new initiatives and strategies to improve behaviour, engagement, and the quality of outreach provision across all sites. Work directly with some of the most challenging students to build trust, self-regulation, and resilience, helping them rediscover a love of learning. Develop individual engagement and support plans, ensuring strategies are personalised and reflect students' emotional and educational needs. Regularly monitor and review the success of behaviour strategies and student progress, adapting approaches where necessary to meet individual needs. Work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to maintain high safeguarding standards and ensure all staff uphold safeguarding procedures. Where possible, ensure all outreach students have access to the same educational, therapeutic, and vocational opportunities as centre-based students. Act as a support network for all staff, offering guidance, encouragement, and coaching around behaviour management and engagement strategies.

Leadership and Team Development

Line manage and inspire Outreach Key Workers, ensuring they deliver engaging and purposeful learning experiences. Carry out termly check-ins with outreach staff to celebrate success, troubleshoot challenges, and set development goals. Monitor planning, target setting, and academic progress through regular reviews of PAP forms, baseline assessments, and work samples. Support staff with engagement and behaviour management strategies, promoting professional development and reflective practice. Encourage the sharing of ideas and best practice to maintain an exciting, creative, and high-quality curriculum offer.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting

Ensure timely completion of all outreach reports, risk assessments, and paperwork including Motional and Matrix assessments. Oversee and moderate student progress data to identify patterns, celebrate success, and address underperformance. Produce a termly newsletter article celebrating outreach successes, progress, and innovative practice. Maintain accurate and secure records in line with GDPR and safeguarding expectations. Contribute to the continuous improvement of outreach provision through regular monitoring, reflection, and evaluation of outcomes.

Person Specification



Essential Skills and Experience:

Proven experience working with students displaying challenging behaviour and complex needs. Strong understanding of trauma informed practice and restorative approaches. Excellent behaviour management skills with the ability to support and model best practice for others. Ability to inspire trust and build strong relationships with students, families, and professionals. Experience in coordinating educational or outreach programmes. Excellent organisational, communication, and administrative skills. Ability to remain upbeat, positive, and resilient when working with challenging students or complex situations. Flexible and adaptable to the varied and unpredictable nature of working within an Alternative Provision (AP). Ability to work flexibly, using initiative and sound judgement in dynamic situations. Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle (mileage reimbursed at 45p per mile).

Desirable:



Relevant qualification in education, youth work, or behaviour management. Experience in an Alternative Provision (AP), PRU, or similar setting. First Aid and/or Team Teach (or equivalent) training.
