Job Description

This is a full time position as a student to undertake the practical knowledge and training as part of the Post Graduate Specialist Community Public Health Nursing course to qualify you as a Health Visitor .



You will work as part of the Integrated Specialist Public Health Nursing Team, assisting with supporting families by delivering packages of care under the direction of the Integrated Specialist Public Health Nurse (0-19yrs) , in the home and in community settings including for example Children Centres and Early Years Settings



We plan to hold a face to face session to discuss the role and course on 4th February 2026 at 4pm at the learning centre, Willerby Hill. HU10 6ED, there will be representatives from our 0-19 services and from the university with a presentation and time to ask any questions



We also plan to hold an online session at 4pm on10th February 2026, again there will be a presentation and representatives from the 0-19 services and the university. Here is the link

This opportunity is for a one-year, full-time fixed-term training contract, offering a mid Band 5 salary. The role includes both Level 7 University study and practical placement days, allowing individuals to gain valuable professional experience while advancing their academic qualifications.



Candidates applying for this position must be a 1st Level registered nurse or midwife, and they must be on the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register.



Following successful completion of the Level 7 University study and practical placement days, you will move into a Band 6 Health Visitor role.



The health visiting service is a crucial workforce comprising specialist community public health nurses and a diverse skill mix team. Their primary role is to deliver a wide range of information, support, and access to interventions aimed at promoting the health and well-being of families, babies, children, and young people. This service covers individuals from the antenatal period through to the fifth birthday of the youngest child in the family.



Health visitors play a significant role in empowering parents and families to make informed decisions that positively impact their health and well-being. They work closely with families to offer guidance on various aspects of parenting, child development, and early health issues. Their interventions may include health assessments, advice on nutrition, immunisations, mental health support, and referrals to other services as needed.
