About us

Could you be a Student Residence Adviser?

Student Residence Advisers (SRAs) provide out of hours peer to peer support for residents and help to create a welcoming and inclusive community. This role is highly dynamic and combines welfare responsibilities with community building activities through the ResLife Programme. We are looking for resilient and adaptable individuals who are passionate about helping others and can manage competing priorities within a busy hall environment.

SRAs work on a rota basis, typically 2-3 shifts per week, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays, and UCL closure periods. In return, SRAs receive a single room in UCL Accommodation free of charge.

SRAs receive training in essential areas such as suicide first aid, harm reduction, supportive conversations, and first aid. You'll be supported every step of the way by your warden and the wider ResLife team, ensuring you have the guidance and resources you need to succeed.

About the role

------------------

Welfare Responsibilities

Provide out-of-hours peer-to-peer support for students living in UCL Accommodation. Respond to wellbeing concerns and crisis call-outs when Student Support and Wellbeing Services are closed (18:00 to 08:00). Conduct welfare checks in response to student wellbeing concerns, including issues such as suicidal ideation, self-harm, depression, anxiety, and other general wellbeing matters. Offer pastoral support through supportive conversations and signposting to wider UCL and external services. Attend SRA appointments to support students with issues such as loneliness, adjusting to university life, making friends, and resolving flatmate disputes. Support students through sensitive wellbeing conversations while balancing your own academic and personal commitments.

ResLife Responsibilities

Play a key role in building vibrant hall communities by planning and delivering events and activities throughout the year as part of the ResLife Programme. Deliver activities such as quiz and games nights during shifts. Interact with residents proactively and reactively to provide wellbeing support and guidance. Work on a rota basis, typically 2-3 shifts per week, including weekday evenings, weekends, bank holidays, and UCL closure periods.
