To provide a smooth and efficient laundry service to the residential boarding houses, including the washing and drying of bed linen. To help students develop homely skills.
To ensure that all students have access to a safe and secure environment, working directly with students to ensure we comply with all legal requirements relating to minimum standards of care, safeguarding and health & safety.
Main Duties
Supervise and patrol Cardiff Sixth Form College designated buildings in the different College buildings, supporting students as required, ensuring study areas are conducive to work and that boarding accommodation is homely and orderly;
Closely monitor and authorise/prevent entrance and departure of students from the site;
Closely monitor entrance and departure of all other authorised persons to the site;
Prevent entry of any unauthorised personnel;
Manage visitors to the site; escort them or arrange an escort if required;
Guard against theft and maintain security of the designated site;
Monitor the CSFC CCTV camera feeds;
Write reports of activities and irregularities as per college policy;
Ensure that information of incidents, safeguarding concerns, health & safety and maintenance issues are recorded and passed on;
Take a significant responsibility in the event of a fire, in line with CFSC fire evacuation procedures;
Take a significant responsibility in the event of an emergency, in line with CSFC critical incident plan;
Assist the House Parents and Housekeeping team, as required and as directed by line manager;
Follow policy on receiving, holding and dispensing students post/parcels;
Uphold and administer CSFC policy with regard to smoking, alcohol and drug use;
Ensure only students permitted to enter certain areas have access;
Play a key role in the preparation of rooms for student use at the beginning of the academic year and for the beginning of Summer and Pre-Sessional courses;
Help to prepare rooms after CSFC students leave for the end of term, ready to hand back to the management companies, moving and storing luggage safely and appropriately;
Administer first aid (following training) where necessary and liaise with boarding staff and/or emergency services
Laundry Skills
Collect bed-linen laundry bags from students' rooms or reception, as required
Ensure that all laundry is washed, dried, folded, stored and returned to student rooms
Clean and sanitise washing machines and dryers
Ensure that stocks of washing powders, etc are maintained
Report any maintenance issues to Housemaster or maintenance team
Keep the laundries clean and tidy.
Other Tasks
The role requires some heavy lifting and work with chemicals
Take a role in boarding induction to show students how to use the machines if they want/need to do their own laundry
Undertake cleaning duties when required
Undertake such duties as may reasonably be required in consideration of your role, general responsibilities, grade/salary level.
Health and Safety
Comply with all health and safety procedures as required by the college on all sites, particularly to ensure all fire evacuation requirements are met.
Person Specification:
Be physically fit as the role requires some lifting to get laundry in and out of the machines
Being adaptable and showing good judgement. Demonstrating good organizational skills and an ability to complete tasks without supervision whilst also functioning as a part of a team
Works effectively with other people by being self-aware; treating people equally and sensitively, whilst ensuring all aspects of confidentiality are maintained
Developing good working relationships with colleagues
Communicates clearly by getting the message across effectively, listening carefully and responding to feedback
Represents CSFC professionally and adheres to the highest levels of customer service with all stakeholders including students, parents, agents, guardians and external service providers.

Ofsted Inspection
Cardiff Sixth Form College Cambridge has been inspected in May 2022 by Ofsted as a new school providing academic education for pupils and students aged 14 - 19. A further, full school Ofsted inspection and, separately, a boarding Ofsted inspection both took place in 2023, in which the college was judged good in all areas. The college has since joined the Independent Schools Association.
Governance
The college is a registered company limited by guarantee operating within the Dukes Education Group Ltd. The college is governed by a Board of Directors The Board of Directors is assisted by a professional support team and appointed Senior Advisors to review all aspects of college performance and monitoring. This includes safeguarding, fees, staffing, budgets, health and safety, property, admissions and marketing, compliance, inspections, training and development, legal matters, complaints, surveys and other local school issues.
The Governing Body meets termly to consider reports from the Principal covering all college matters.
The Board retain ultimate responsibility for the approval of all policies and developments. They also review regularly their impact on college finances and operations. All operational matters are delegated to the Principal, as appropriate, who are responsible for fulfilling the college's aims and the successful implementation of the college's strategic development plan.
Terms & Conditions
1 Remuneration: 24,500 to 26,000 pa depending on experience
2 Pension: Inclusion in the Cardiff Sixth Form Pension Plan
3 Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 09:00 - 17:30
4 Holiday entitlement: 38 days, to including public holidays
5 Notice period: 1 month
6 Probationary period: 6 months, reviewable at discretion of CSFC

The successful candidate's performance will be subject to regular review.
Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to undertake identity and qualification checks which conform to the college's Safeguarding Policy.
Shortlisted candidates will be subject to online searches as part of due diligence.
