The position is 18 hours per week, with flexibility required to work additional hours at busy times.

The post holder will act as the College's designated Disability Coordinator, working closely with the Academic Registrar in her capacity at Disability Lead. They will act as first point of contact for offer-holders and on-course students who disclose a disability, liaising with the University's Disability Advisory Service (DAS) and members of College staff, as appropriate, to put in place reasonable adjustments for study and domestic purposes. In addition, they will administer the College's Access Bursaries scheme and assist students who are experiencing financial difficulties. The post holder will deal with a wide range of matters, often sensitive and confidential, and sometimes urgent. They will have to exercise judgement about the course of action required. The workload on the office can be demanding, requiring first class judgement, personal organisation and flexibility as well as an ability to work to deadlines.

Key Responsibilities





Act as the College's designated Disability Coordinator, working with the College's Disability Lead and Academic Director, and liaising with the University's Disability Advisory Service (DAS) to co-ordinate student assessment and reasonable adjustments related to disability. Act as the first point of contact for undergraduate and postgraduate offer-holders and on-course students with a disability or long-term health condition, advising on next steps to ensure appropriate support ahead of arrival and throughout studies. Process applications to the University's Exams and Assessment Services for examination adjustments recommended in Student Support Plans, and update students of the outcome. Liaise, as appropriate, with students and staff (e.g. academic, library), to grant access to Student Support Plans, and brief tutors and other staff on the provision of reasonable adjustments in terms of study and domestic support. Administer requests for priority in the allocation of accommodation on grounds of disability. Liaise with students requiring Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPS), and support implementation in College. Respond to disability disclosures during the undergraduates admissions exercise, liaising with applicants, admissions staff and interviewing tutors on reasonable adjustments, and inputting data into the University admissions database (ADSS) to ensure appropriate sharing of information with tutors and other Colleges (where Jesus candidates are interviewed elsewhere). Liaise with undergraduate and postgraduate offer-holders ahead of their arrival to ensure that the College holds accurate information on individual requirements, and make recommendations to College departments and tutors on reasonable adjustments in time for the start of their course. Record, track and monitor student disability information, using College and University systems as appropriate, in line with GDPR and confidentiality policies. Escalate concerns or complex cases to the Academic Registrar and/or Welfare team as appropriate.


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise



Essential

Proven administrative skills, with the ability to work with high levels of accuracy and excellent attention to detail; Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to deal tactfully and appropriately with a wide range of people, including those in difficult situations; A high level of discretion and judgement, and the ability to maintain confidentiality in line with College and University guidelines; Ability to interpret, apply and communicate regulations and procedures; Proven ability to work independently, with minimum supervision, and a willingness to resolve situations, as well as knowing when to refer issues to others; Ability to work calmly under pressure, prioritising work and meeting competing deadlines; Evidence of working in an organised and methodical manner, with accuracy and excellent attention to detail; Possess good written and oral communication skills; Strong team-working skills and ability to work co-operatively with others, building constructive relationships; IT-literate, with experience of using standard computer programmes (Outlook, Word, Excel), as well as a willingness to learn new systems and software packages.

Desirable

Experience of working in administration in a higher education setting; Experience of working in the area of welfare/wellbeing and/or in the provision of disability support in an educational setting.
